About the Role:

Global News is currently seeking a full-time Executive Producer to join their team in Calgary. This is a key leadership position and part of a management team that leads an award-winning newsroom developing content for TV, Radio and Online 7-days a week. This position reports directly to the Station Manager/News Director. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

You will contribute by:

• Collaborate with the Managing Editor, Broadcast Operations Manager, Online Managing Editor and Radio Newsroom Manager on story selection, placement and treatment and assist in vetting scripts with particular focus on strong storytelling.
• Working with the Global Calgary newsroom to build value around top stories in every newscast through proper show production, pacing, framing, breaking news execution and innovation.
• Perform other duties as required.
• Working with the management team, supervisors and staff to oversee planning for special events and live on-location broadcasts.
• Ensure timely and effective communication between TV, Radio and Online.
• Understand and share local ratings with a focus on continuing to build them.
• Manage performance, providing coaching for employees and celebrating high performers and innovative thinkers.
• Lead a team of supervisors, producers and editors on a daily basis to shape and guide local newscasts, driving each daily editorial meeting with a focus on the local audience and the stories that matter to them most.
• Advocate for community focused and sales integrated content and assist in ensuring proper execution.
• Practice and understand ethical principles of journalism.
• Ensure coverage reflects a diverse Calgary in both subject matter and interviews including under represented voices (e.g. racialized communities, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S community)
• Work with supervisors to hire, recruit and onboard new employees.
• Conduct performance reviews and goal setting conversations.
• Responsible for the on-air look, sound and feel of all Global Calgary TV newscasts.
• Ensure daily assignments and production resources are properly deployed to ensure success including support for globalnews.ca, Global National and affiliate tv/radio stations within the Global News Network
• Develop and deliver strong engagement initiatives designed to help employees grow in their positions.
• Identify opportunities to share content across platforms with an understanding of what works best for each medium.
• Work across traditional newsroom boundaries to liaise and improve communication lines with supporting departments i.e. Production, Marketing, Sales, Engineering
• Grow a culture of inclusiveness, lead, develop, attract and retain talent on and off the air to reflect the diversity of Canada

Skills and Experience you will bring:

• Minimum 5 years producing live newscasts in a major market.
• Motivated, self-starter, independent, results oriented and professional.
• Be a proven leader with a minimum of three years of management experience in a major market newsroom that can motivate and engage staff while getting results.
• Work cooperatively with others in a teamwork setting.
• Positive, can-do attitude, proven track record of accountability.
• Strong writing and organizational skills and a proven ability to work well under pressure.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driver's abstract.
• Passion for broadcast and online journalism and Canadian affairs.
• You wake up in the middle of the night with good ideas.
• Positive attitude, a love for collaboration and a team player.
• Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation.
• Post-secondary education in journalism, communications or a related field in addition to seven years of experience in major market television including live field productions.
