Job Description

We are hiring a Learning and Development Director who will lead strategic direction for all learning and development - with a strong emphasis on sales performance success. This role has overall responsibility for the training and development initiatives at Neilson Financial.


Role Overview: You will lead a team of training professionals, collaborate with senior leadership, and drive the strategic direction of our training programs. The primary objective will be to ensure that our Life Insurance Advisors receive comprehensive and impactful training to achieve exceptional sales performance and business growth. This role requires a strong blend of leadership, strategic thinking, training expertise, and a deep understanding of the life insurance industry.


The role encompasses various responsibilities, including:


  • Annual assessments
  • Training needs analysis and delivery
  • LMS management
  • Compliance training
  • Stakeholder management and team leadership
  • E-learning module creation and implementation
  • Ongoing sales upskilling
  • Training strategy development


Core Accountabilities:


Training Strategy Development:


  • Identify the training needs of different departments and - create a roadmap for addressing those needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure training initiatives support business growth and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Develop a comprehensive training strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives.


Learning Management System (LMS) Management:


  • Continuously evaluate and select appropriate learning technologies to enhance training efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the management and administration of the company's Learning Management System. Ensure the LMS is up to date, user-friendly, and effectively utilized for training purposes.


E-Learning Module Creation and Implementation:


  • Regularly update and improve existing e-learning modules based on feedback and industry best practices.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of e-learning modules tailored to meet the specific training requirements of different roles within the company.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create engaging and interactive e-learning content using instructional design principles.


Training Needs Analysis:


  • Conduct regular training needs analysis to identify skill gaps and training requirements within the organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training interventions through feedback mechanisms and metrics.
  • Collaborate with Sales and QA department heads to assess performance gaps, determine training priorities, and develop targeted training programs to address identified needs.


Training Delivery and Facilitation:


  • Develop and deliver train-the-trainer programs to build the capacity of internal trainers.
  • Oversee the delivery of training programs using a variety of delivery methods, including classroom-based sessions and virtual-led training.
  • Ensure training sessions are engaging, interactive, and effectively transfer knowledge and skills to the participants.


Training Program Evaluation:


  • Establish metrics and evaluation processes to measure the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Collect and analyze training data to assess the impact of training on employee performance, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Use evaluation results to continuously improve training initiatives and demonstrate the return on investment in training.


Compliance and Regulatory Training:


  • Ensure employees receive necessary compliance and regulatory training in line with industry standards and legal requirements. Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to develop and deliver training programs that enhance employees' understanding of regulations, policies, and ethical practices.


Stakeholder Management:


  • Collaborate with internal stakeholder and senior management, to identify training needs and align training initiatives with business objectives.


Team Leadership and Development:


  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the training team.
  • Lead and manage a team of trainers, providing guidance, coaching, and feedback to team members to enhance their performance and professional growth.


What You Will Have:


  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent field. Additional certifications in training and/or instructional design an asset.
  • Has had experience developing learning programs with technical components.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, delivering, and implementing technical training;
  • Experience promoting and integrating continuous learning initiatives.
  • Has previously assisted with mass trainings and project rollouts.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
