SUMMARY
The Director, Communications supports BCFSA to achieve its mandate and live its corporate values by providing strategic communications for internal and external stakeholders. The position is BCFSA’s primary media contact and spokesperson responsible for public relations, strategic communications planning, brand development, and issues management.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Leads the development and implementation of the Communications Strategy and branch operational plan for internal and external communications.
• Leads a diverse team of communications professionals who deliver on branch operations and supports team members development to achieve their full potential in their role and career.
• Develops and/or reviews relevant executive briefing and presentation materials, ensuring timeliness and accuracy to inform direction and decision making.
• Directs the development of BCFSA’s website and social media presence to enhance user experience, information sharing, and data collection.
• Works in collaboration with business leads to develop BCFSA publications including newsletters, annual reports, licensee and consumer advisories, press releases, fact sheets, webinars, videos, key messages, and executive speeches.
• Leads internal communications including Intranet, Town Halls, Team Dialogues, and CEO messages to enhance engagement and build awareness of core values and corporate/regulatory matters.
• Leads advertising and marketing campaigns, digital and graphic design services, and public feedback mechanisms.
• Directs ongoing development of BCFSA’s brand design, style guides, and branded document templates.
• Speaks on behalf of BCFSA in media and public relations as needed.
• Builds and fosters strategic and collaborative relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Creates mechanisms for feedback, develops key performance indicators, tracks progress, and regularly reports on status of the communications strategy and operational plan.
• Oversees the development of corporate communications policies, procedures, performance standards, and service levels.
• Provides project management and risk management methodology in key communications projects, programs, and services.
• Manages branch budget and oversees procurement with communications vendors and service providers.
• Continuously learns global trends and innovates strategic communications strategies and practices. Leads and/or participates in operational planning and reporting for one or more program areas to support reliable program accountability, organizational core values and mandate.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or English and extensive experience in media/public relations, advertising/marketing, and corporate communications in a mid-to-large organization (preferably in a public sector/regulatory environment). An equivalent combination of education and recent experience will be considered.
• Experience developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
• Minimum 5 years' experience leading a diverse team of communications professionals including professional development and performance management.
• Experience applying communications principles, concepts, and methodologies to communications deliverables including issues management, advertising/marketing, and media/public relations.
• Exceptional communications skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Knowledge of up-and-coming communications strategies including application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
• Knowledge of project management and risk management principles and practices.
• Experience managing budgets and contracts.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
