Job Summary
The Associate Director, Communications & Marketing leads, directs and manages communications and marketing strategies and initiatives that build and position the Faculty of Arts brand and reputation domestically and internationally. This position is responsible for leading strategic planning and development of communications and marketing to students, faculty, staff and other key audiences. The Associate Director is responsible for providing senior leadership for the Faculty of Arts strategic plan for communication with current students and oversees all Arts Student Communications and design outputs.
This position is responsible for annual communications planning which results in an annual forecast and an integrated communications plan (including project budgets and deliverables); works effectively with Arts units to create high-impact campaigns; collaborates with strategic partners to coordinate communications campaigns; leverages emerging digital communications; execute market research to evaluate student satisfaction and preferences regarding communications; and oversee and evaluate the operations of the student communications efforts to ensure that it supports strategic communications goals. The ability to create communications strategies and patterns to support the student journey and academic needs is critical to the success of this position.
The Associate Director provides operational oversight and planning to a growing team that is proactive and innovative around how we share content in a diverse community.
The Associate Director provides oversight to the design team, ensuring brand and visual alignment in all communication efforts for the Faculty of Arts.
The Associate Director provides strategic counsel to the Director of Communications and the Dean’s Table and is responsible for ensuring communications and marketing initiatives support key strategic goals and audience needs within the Faculty, while aligning with key stakeholders across UBC Vancouver campus. They also support crisis/issues management at the Faculty-level, as needed.
Working with the Communications Director, this role is responsible for operational management of the Arts Communications core team. Works with the Communications Director and Communications Network Manager to create a unified and centralized hub for Arts communications.
The position supports the academic success, recruitment and retention of domestic and international students enrolled in Arts undergraduate degree programs.
The position works with others in the Dean's Office, Arts Communications, and Arts ISIT regarding communications strategies, content, user experience and brand strategy. The position liaises regularly with Arts Advising and other units. This role is a key contact for Arts Academic Advising, UBC Student Communications Services and members of the UBC Communications Network.
Organizational Status
The position reports to the Communications Director, Faculty of Arts.
The Associate Director, Communications & Marketing interacts regularly and consults with staff, students, faculty members, departmental advisors, and other student service personnel across campus and a variety of other members of the University community.
The Associate Director, Communication & Marketing manages direct and indirect reports and provides functional supervision for managers, strategists and designers.
Works in collaboration with leaders in Arts including: Director, Arts Academic Advising, Associate Dean, Students, Associate Dean, Academic, Executive Director, Work Integrated Education and Career Initiatives. Maintains close working relationships with various UBC unit leaders including: Enrolment Services (ES), Student Communications Services (SDS) and Recruitment Marketing and Prospective Student Engagement.
