Description
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Communications & Public Affairs (A&S) the Director of Stakeholder Communications and Marketing provides guidance and advice to members of the Dean’s Office and Faculty community on communications and marketing initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for the creation and execution of communications plans and marketing materials for the Faculty of Arts & Science. The incumbent will have a strong understanding of the technical work that feeds into executing strategies and projects and be able to communicate complex technical projects to a wider audience. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for providing strategic advice to the Faculty’s academic and administrative units on their own initiatives. As a leader and a mentor, the Director manages a staff of high-caliber professionals and assumes overall responsibility for human resources, labour relations and financial management including dispute resolution and compliance of collective agreements. In addition to providing guidance around communications planning, Director also oversees a large array of Faculty marketing and communication initiatives and projects including management of email marketing platforms and strategies, branded templates, creative services, and the Faculty’s website and academic unit web project partnership with Information & Instructional Technology Services. The Director actively participates in senior-level decision-making and is responsible for liaising and working closely with senior management and colleagues across the University ensuring appropriate consultation and process.
The Director ensures that the Faculty’s marketing and communications strategies are well-integrated and sensitive to the needs of diverse local, regional and international audiences. The Director will be the resident expert in marketing communications, providing leadership around brand protocols and alignment with the University, digital communications strategies, and the Faculty’s website leading the exploration and potential adoption of new approaches and technologies. The Director provides guidance to stakeholders within the Faculty of Arts and Science on internal and external-facing communications and marketing materials and strategies in order to advance the Faculty’s profile and campaigns. The Director supports other units within the Faculty to ensure alignment and consistency among the various departments. The Director consults broadly to develop strategies and provides guidance and support to A&S administrators, faculty and staff on communications.
Education
Qualifications Required:
University degree in communications/marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree an asset.
Experience
A minimum of six to seven (8-10) years’ experience in communication and marketing management with extensive experience developing digital marketing strategies that align with priorities. Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team in a unionized environment. Strong record of collaborations and partnerships. Experience in developing strategic communication plans and products. Experience leading marketing and research initiatives. Demonstrated experience in project management. Experience creating and executing content and strategies leveraged across multiple platforms. Experience using web content management systems. Experience working in a highly complex organization and willingness to work across units and departments.
Skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, project management skills, creative management skills and problem-solving skills required. Strong knowledge of digital communications and content trends, especially as it relates to audience and general consumer behaviour and expectations. Expert in-depth technical knowledge of digital communications best practices, regulations and trends. Demonstrated experience with digital measurement and associated analytics and reporting tools. Strong knowledge of marketing communication trends and channels to be the subject matter expert. Excellent oral and presentation skills. Ability to deal professionally with tension and conflicts. Outstanding communications judgment. Ability to make strategic communications decisions on behalf of the Faculty of Arts & Science and the leadership of the Faculty. Demonstrated creativity and ability to think strategically. Detail oriented to ensure accurate and reliable implementation of communication strategies. Proficiency in computer applications. Demonstrated understanding of digital media and other platforms.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with faculty students, staff, colleagues, senior university administrators, alumni and donors, community members, and external contacts. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. Supervisory skills and the ability to set priorities and foster a strong team environment.
