A Day in  the Life 

As Communications and Engagement Representative, you will report directly to the Director of Communications and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and marketing campaigns, promotional events and projects from conception to completion. Here’s what you can expect to dig into in this exciting, hands-on role:

• Update website content to help grow engagement. 
• Own the creation of social media content, particularly video and visual content for emergent platforms like Instagram and TikTok
• Work with the Director of Communication to see opportunities to engage current members and the public around important union and social justice news.
• Create stories, reports, publications, email marketing campaigns and newsletters to engage stakeholders. 
• Support the development of campaigns and help coordinate their implementation.
• Develop landing pages and micro-sites for organizing, campaigns, educational events, etc. 
• Support UFCW 1518’s overall brand, ensuring consistent and proper use by establishing processes and guidelines for effective and efficient communication and branding efforts.
• Create graphic assets for web and print including social media posts, infographics, web interfaces, magazines, leaflets, videos, etc.  
• Assist Officers with internal correspondence and support with copywriting and mass texts. 
• Lead communications related to union events, including education initiatives, and occasionally assist in facilitating and monitoring events.
• Create member email communications including organizing and campaign-related email communications in a timely manner using the email marketing platform Mailchimp. 
• Lead and seek out opportunities to engage members in the bargaining process.

• Exceptional written skills and ability to write copy for various platforms to target specific audiences. 
• Creative problem-solving and time management skills to work in a fast-paced environment. 
• Confident with receiving feedback in a constructive manner. 

Your Qualifications

• Exceptional graphic design and short-video creation skills and a strong familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
• Ability to present diverse materials effectively.
• Strong working knowledge of WordPress, HTML, and CSS
• 7 years' experience in a marketing or communications role. 
• An undergraduate degree or equivalent in graphic design, journalism, public relations, communications, business, or related fields. 
• A commitment to social, racial, gender and economic justice
• Professional knowledge of various software and apps such as Google, Outlook, MailChimp, Content Management Systems (CMS), and Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok).
• Ability to travel to attend events, report on member initiatives at worksites, and attend conferences.
• Previous work experience in a communications role within a social justice or public service organization, or a communications firm, public relations agency or similar operation. 
• Extensive and proven work experience executing successful campaigns using a variety of print and online communications. 

It’s a Bonus If You Have

• Experience with Meta Ads Manager.
• Knowledge of the role, objectives and activities of labour unions. 
• Knowledge of Sketch and Figma. 
• Experience copywriting for web assets.
• Proficiency in other languages
• JavaScript and PHP experience.
