UFCW 1518 is hiring a Communications and Engagement Representative to join our team.
- Seek out opportunities to engage members in the bargaining process.
- Work with the Director of Communication to identify opportunities to engage current members and the public around important union and social justice news.
- Lead the development of our graphic assets for web and print including social media posts, infographics, web interfaces, magazines, leaflets, videos, etc.
- Support communications related to union events, including education initiatives, and occasionally assist in facilitating and monitoring events.
- Own UFCW 1518’s social media platforms, particularly video and visual content for emergent platforms like Instagram and TikTok, and maintaining a high responsiveness on social media
- Assist in maintaining the union’s websites to help grow engagement through creating content, refining the UX of digital properties, and developing landing pages and micro-sites for organizing, campaigns, educational events, etc.
- Occasionally assist Officers with internal correspondence and support with copywriting and mass texts.
- Create member email communications including organizing and campaign-related email communications in a timely manner using the email marketing platform Mailchimp.
- Support UFCW 1518’s overall brand, ensuring consistent and proper use and establishing processes and guidelines for effective and efficient communication and branding efforts.
- Contribute to the development of campaigns and help coordinate their implementation through stories, reports, publications, email marketing and newsletters to engage stakeholders.

- Ability to travel to attend events, report on member initiatives at worksites, and attend conferences.
- Exceptional graphic design and short video creation skills and a strong familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- 3-5 years of experience in a graphic design, marketing. or communications role.
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent in graphic design, journalism, public relations, communications, business, or related fields.
- Previous work experience in graphic design or communications within a social justice or public service organization, communications firm, public relations agency, or similar operation.
- Professional knowledge of various software and apps such as Google, Outlook, MailChimp, Content Management Systems (CMS), and Social Media (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and other emerging platforms).
- Strong working knowledge of WordPress, HTML, and CSS.
- Ability to present diverse materials effectively.
- Extensive and proven work experience executing successful campaigns using a variety of print and online communications.
- Experience copywriting for web assets.
- Experience with Meta Ads Manager.
- Knowledge of Sketch and Figma.
- JavaScript and PHP experience.
- Proficiency in other languages
- Knowledge of the role, objectives and activities of labour unions.
