Job Description
Administrative Temporary Full-time Replacement Contract Position (July 24, 2023 – September 6, 2024)
As part of the Total Rewards Team and working in collaboration with the broader HR Department, the Compensation Administrator will ensure that employees are paid accurately and on time and will perform confidential and sensitive administrative duties related to compensation administration. This involves the input and import of employee data into ADP and balancing the gross pay and deductions generated. This will also require the issuance of Records of Employment and assisting employees with compensation administration issues related to their contract employment or Memorandum of Settlement.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement consisting of both on-site and remote presence.
Responsibilities
  • Completes Record of Employment forms for Employment Insurance purposes when requested for employees whose contracts have ended
  • Reviews and confirms all reconcilable deductions generated by the system are correct based on the preview function
  • Balances Payroll authorizations to output generated from the system prior to transmission of Payroll, using the Payroll Preview function available within the system software
  • Processes Support/Training allowances paid bi-weekly to students in government-sponsored programs
  • Responds to Service Canada (HRSDC) when additional information is required (e.g. termination inquiries)
  • Assists with queries for labour relations data and compliance reports
  • Updates Student Information System (SIS) for contract employees who join or terminate from the Pension Plan, ensuring deductions are processed on the Payroll and the records on SIS are accurately maintained in order to prepare a monthly report of contract employee members for the Pension Plan
  • Interprets and implements Collective Agreement requirements related to contract status (including partial load) leaves of absence, sick leaves, deferred salary, reduced workload, resignation, retirement, reclassification, promotion, etc. in conjunction with the Total Rewards Team
  • Updates Payroll Registers for miscellaneous adjustments and ensures registers are correct for issuance of T4’s
  • Interacts daily to handle requests from employees, colleagues, or other stakeholders, including inquiries of a confidential nature
  • Reconciles monthly Sunlife billing for partial load employees
Qualifications
  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Business, Accounting, Payroll, or other related discipline is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Three years of related practical experience working in a Finance and/or Compensation environment where strong mathematical and analytical skills are required
  • Highly competent with Microsoft Office Applications
  • Good working knowledge of Compensation systems, such as ADP
  • Experience working with various stakeholders at all levels of an organization
