Pan American currently has an opening for a Director, Metallurgy to join its corporate office located in Vancouver, British Columbia.
DIRECTOR, METALLURGY
The successful candidate will work with a team of experts from other disciplines and with the site operation teams to optimize the metallurgical and mineral processing performance of the Company’s assets and will play a leading role in testing, process development, and plant design at the company’s operations, project development and will assist in assessing future growth opportunities.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Duties
· Provide leadership and technical oversight to the metallurgical teams to evaluate opportunities at existing operations and development projects to optimize recoveries, concentrate qualities, and/or reduction of water use, energy consumption, or operating costs.
· Manage test work and process evaluations to ensure the technical feasibility and economics of new projects.
· Evaluate key mineral processing risks at the operating sites and formulate plans to mitigate such risks.
· Work with site teams to evaluate the feasibility of existing facilities' expansion and/or modernization.
· Support operations and projects to be aligned with best practices and standards, cyanide code, and best technologies available.
· Assist with the preparation of technical and other corporate reports.
· Stay current with advancing technologies and processes and how they may be applied to improve the company’s processes.
· Mentor/coach/develop AP staff to assist with the preparation of the above duties.
Job Specific and/or Technical Skills Required
· B.Sc. in Extractive Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent (i.e., Mineral Processing).
· Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in precious metals production operations.
· Experience in testing and design of precious metal hydrometallurgical and poly-metallic selective flotation processes.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required, as well as Spanish and/or Portuguese.
· Registration or willingness to register as a Professional Engineer or a Qualified Person.
· Determined and focused goal-driven orientation with exacting attention to detail.
· Frequent travel to international locations is required. Several of the company’s mines and projects are located at high altitudes in the Andes.
