Job Description

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Library Technician to join the CIBC Patient Family Education Control team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. Apply today to join our team!


As a Library Technician with VCH, you will


  • Interact with clients (patients/families/public) who may be in crisis with sensitivity to determine knowledge needs/health literacy level prior to recommending relevant/appropriate health related material.
  • Catalogue, index, shelf, complete bibliographic descriptions, assign subject headings, conduct literature searches and research reference materials in print, on-line and in computerized databases, process inter-library loans, scan new journals, maintain related records and provide a variety of information, instruction and assistance to library users/volunteers.
  • Promote the website to organizational stakeholders, monitoring and evaluating usage indicators such as statistical trends utilizing spreadsheet software.
  • Perform a variety of technical duties related to Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) library services for various organizational sites including the coordination and maintenance of the library services web pages.
  • Coordinate and edits information contributed to web pages utilizing and manipulating related software packages such as FrontPage and/or other designated web design software, providing guidance and assistance to team members with editorial and publishing related issues utilizing word-processing software.
  • Attend and participates in relevant committee meetings and provides administrative support, purchasing and other related duties.


Education & Experience


  • Grade 12. Diploma from a recognized Library Technician Program and two years’ recent related experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
