Job Description
Who We Are
At Northland, we’re enablers of change, united by our journey to transform the energy sector into the foundation for a sustainable future.
Since our inception, we’ve been early movers in the energy industry, adopting new initiatives that pave the way for communities across the globe and helping forge their path towards a carbon-neutral landscape.
We’re a different kind of independent power producer. As developers, owners and operators who are at the forefront of the energy transition, we’re uniquely positioned to leave a lasting impact in the regions where we operate. We’ve expanded our business across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia to become a global leader, all by bringing together industry experts to find solutions with an entrepreneurial mindset.
While our work powers communities across the globe, Northland is powered by our people.

What You’ll Do
As an Associate within our Hydrogen business unit, you will support the business development and project development functions across the globe. Reporting into the Head of Business Development, Hydrogen, you will play a key role in preparing and managing project-level financial models for valuation, risk assessment, and cash flow evaluation purposes. You will also partake in other projects assigned to the team, which will involve leading the necessary analysis for the company to make various strategic decisions, such as targeting the right customer segments, entering new geographies, or defining the right pricing. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in a high-impact, highly visible role as we position ourselves for the new wave of global decarbonization.
Occasional travel will be required to meet with Northland’s regional teams, management teams or external parties.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with global Business Development, Market Analysis, and Finance teams to identify cause-effect relationships in global hydrogen markets and its derivatives.
  • Coordinate diligence of opportunities with the support of internal experts and external advisors.
  • Work with internal teams and various external technical consultants to source inputs required for modeling hydrogen and power-to-x projects.
  • Maintain Northland’s competitive intelligence and general policy understanding on hydrogen and its derivatives.
  • Support various reporting and administrative requirements as required.
  • Lead market research and analysis projects to support the development of consistent, corporate-wide views on relevant hydrogen market fundamentals.
  • Support Corporate Finance and Risk Management teams to understand market-related risk exposures at an enterprise level.
  • Write investment memorandums and prepare presentations summarizing key findings from internal and external sources.
  • Review and stress test financial models prepared by third parties and advisors.
  • Develop and manage project-level financial models for valuation, risk assessment, and cash flow evaluation purposes.
Who You Are
  • Collaborative: You are a natural relationship builder and are comfortable working and engaging with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical: You are data-driven and stay abreast of trends in the industry to support business growth and strategic decision making. You can formulate valuable insights around the dynamic global markets and can create structured quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • A strong communicator: You have exceptional oral and written communication skills and can articulate your analyses in a clear and concise manner.
  • Diligent: You have solid attention to detail, and you follow up with others when needed to ensure outstanding information or actions are complete. You are hands-on and will roll up your sleeves to complete deliverables within required deadlines.
  • A proactive self-starter: You have a desire to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment. You have a proven ability to take initiative, organize, and manage a high volume of detailed projects simultaneously while prioritizing appropriately to meet deadlines.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Proficiency in a second language and international experience would be an asset.
  • Experience in developing financial models for hydrogen or renewable projects as well as creating and reviewing detailed cash flow and three-statement financial models.

  • Business undergraduate degree (Economics or Finance) or related field, with exceptional academic results. Masters of Finance, CFA, CPA or other advanced designation considered an asset.
