Responsibilities
What you will be doing…
Reporting To The Manager, Student Services And Functionally Reporting To The Manager, Libraries And Learning Commons With Day-to-day Guidance From The Campus Librarian, You Will
  • Answering various levels of in person and virtual reference questions.
  • Utilize Novanet systems to register library borrowers; circulation activities; provide document delivery and reserve services; and process library materials and equipment for loan.
  • Working cooperatively to ensure campus community information and learning support needs are being met.
  • Deliver library and learning commons services, including, but not limited to:
  • Providing technology and troubleshooting support.
  • Support collection maintenance; collect and maintain usage statistics and service data; and provide user education during all transactions.
  • Support and participate in student events, such as Orientation, Get Started, Open House, and Convocation. This role supports NSCC students, employees, and alumni as well as external library borrowers within library consortia and the broader community.
  • Supporting users in locating, accessing and using resources.
  • Collaborate with Central Libraries and Learning Commons on college-wide and consortia initiatives and participate in working groups, committees, and projects to advance library and learning commons services and meet required standards.
  • Actively promoting and supporting in the delivery of all Libraries and Learning Commons services, programs, initiatives and activities.
Qualifications

Qualifications And Occupational Experience
  • Experience with assistive technology e.g., alternate format texts (AFTs), text-to-speech software, accessibility features in desktop and web applications and equipment is considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in library applications including integrated library systems, discovery layers, subject guides and a variety of online databases and internet resources.
  • Demonstrated experience with academic integrity, citation and referencing.
  • Academic library experience would be considered an asset.
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma in Library and Information Technology.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace) and Pressbooks is considered an asset.
  • You possess strong demonstrated experience with library applications, including library services platforms (ideally Novanet and Alma LSP) and discovery services (ideally Primo); online databases; internet resources; LibApps (e.g., LibGuides).
  • You have a minimum of one year (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a library environment.
  • Copyright and open educational resources (OER) experience is considered an asset.
  • You have experience supporting and providing service to students and prospective students.
  • You have strong demonstrated computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
