The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on twelve steps that range from $62,071.93 - $86,777.47. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $74,518.78 annually.


Responsibilities
  • Use recreational, cultural, and social events and activities to engage students
  • For example, you will
  • You will be a member of campus and provincial Student Services and Advising teams, which provide a continuum of integrated services and opportunities to students in-person, online, and in blended environments. You will initiate and build partnerships with Academic Chairs and Faculty in order to provide services tailored to the unique needs and opportunities of students and programs.
  • Provide opportunities for students to explore career and employment options
  • Refer students to internal learning disability, and counselling supports
  • Refer students to relevant community services and supports
  • Help students learn and make informed decisions regarding college policies, program selection and completion options. Assist students in planning how to meet financial commitments of college
  • You will be helping students make decisions, solve problems, and meet goals that maximize their college experience. You will work to engage and support a caseload of students - including prospective, transitioning-in, current, and transitioning-out students. You will be planning and delivering events, activities, and interactions that support student growth, engagement, and leadership. You will be advising students in areas including Career, Enrolment, Finance, Learning, Student Life, and Wellness. You will have provincial accountability for advising students who request specialized supports, resources or connections within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.


Qualifications


Qualifications and Occupational Experience:


  • Preferred occupational experience would include advising students from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who request resources, supports and connections
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, MS Teams, E-mail and PeopleSoft or other student records system.
  • You have a minimum of three years (full time equivalent) of recent and relevant occupational experience in student services supporting students and prospective students or supporting adults in personal, academic, and/or career development.
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree. Student Affairs, Adult Education, Social Science majors would be an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • Occupational experience that includes advising in a post-secondary institution would be considered an asset.

  • You are dedicated to life-long learning both in regards to emerging technologies that support student services, and evolving practices
  • You possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to interact with a diversity of people and support resolution of issues
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to providing supports and planning events for a large caseload.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
