Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX: You will be the senior-most engineer and will report directly to the Arc’teryx CIO. You will have direct responsibility for Arc’teryx engineering practice; engineering community and guild, quality assurance practice, architecture and engineering designs, engineering processes and tools, engineering job family definitions, to be a key enablement of Arc’teryx strategic goals and growing business system capabilities.

In this role, you will advise, lead, and create plans related to all aspects of engineered systems in close and ongoing collaboration with senior leadership, domain leaders, subject-matter experts, and fellow engineers.

You will participate directly in plan execution and in some cases, lead implementation projects. As an engineering leader, you will be prepared and engaged as needed to assist the engineering team with escalated operational issues and new project stabilization.

Shaping and mentoring professional engineering practice at Arc’teryx will be a priority and part of foundational mission. In this cross-cutting role in the organization, you will provide collaborative plans, solutioning, and advisement “up” and “sideways” as well as daily leadership and mentoring “across and down” with engineering team members. To meet the needs of the Arc’teryx engineering leadership, you will have an evolving mix of direct and matrix reports.

This role can be hired remote. Business operations occur on PST.

Information Systems (IS) is an enabling organization responsible for managing all technology systems for Arc’teryx. We integrate with our business organizations and support them with systems and data to improve their productivity and protect their data.

• Evolve and grow the engineering practice and quality assurance practices aligned with Arc’teryx goals, culture, and changing enablement and operational priority.
• Provide a strong focus on engineering professional development and practice that transcends ephemeral vendor and tool competencies in favor of business data expertise, cross-system process flow, operational efficiency, and change flexibility.
• Build competencies and elevate functional interface and data vocabulary architecture as foremost and high-value engineering deliverables.
• Balance priorities of quality, cost efficiency, and extensible design aligned with Arc’teryx business lifecycles, both tactical and strategic.
• Foster and demonstrate, by example, continuous learning, workplace respect, adaptability to change, and mentorship.
• Align with pace-layered architecture principles with a focus on continuous change and points of interface.
• Demonstrate pro-active planning and thoughtful interweave of tech-debt reduction and platform advancement with ongoing business project timelines and system-refresh cycles.

• Blended functional design priorities with organizational and locale-specific data access and privacy policy requirements.
• 20+ years of direct experience in applied engineering and systems architecture as both an individual contributor and leader
• Demonstrated a record of leadership in technology-transformation efforts in direct support of business strategy.
• Strength in design and leadership implementing connective technologies including integration middleware, event-driven architecture, workflow platforms, API gateways, access management, and message brokers.
• Developed with several programming languages and packaging formats and have a commitment and comfort with “polyglot” computing and evolution of developer skills and tool ecosystems.
• Leveraged and solutioned with Azure, AWS, and other advanced hosting platforms for both IaaS and PaaS services and are comfortable with navigating relative merits of cloud centralization vs. heterogenous (or cloud agnostic) solves.
• Designed retail and edge-computing solutions with interoperability between cloud systems and between cloud and edge services.
• Expertise in ERP, CRM, supply-chain, manufacturing, customer payment, and customer experience apps related to shopping, marketing, and loyalty programs for a premium global DTC brand.
• Experience with build, buy, and hybrid implementation in B2B, B2C, and D2C systems and discerning relative merits and overall composition strategy.
• Deep knowledge in high and low-level system design and solution architecture and delivery of related assets such as architectural diagrams, data definition, and models
