VineHR is supporting Uncommon Purpose with the hiring of their next VP, Finance! This is a unique leadership opportunity, reporting directly to the COO, where you’ll you lead the financial management of the business and support company-wide operations.
The Opportunity
You are a true business partner to the Uncommon Purpose portfolio companies and their leadership teams. You are a key member of the leadership team and are responsible for leading the finance function, including financial infrastructure, reporting, forecasting and tax planning, as well as assisting with board reporting and equity financings.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting, Forecasting and Treasury Management
- Work with the CEO and COO on strategic planning, external financings, divestitures and acquisitions and board reporting
- Work closely with business unit leaders to ensure that financial models and forecasts reflect the continuing evolution of their businesses
- Own the preparation and dissemination of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including performance analysis against KPIs, to the leadership team and the board of directors
- Own all financial functions, including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, auditing and tax management
- Oversee the company’s capital structure and employee ownership plan
- Develop and maintain multi-year financial models for the parent company and each of its portfolio companies
Business Operations, Systems and Compliance
- Ensure the proper design and functioning of financial systems, processes and controls
- Oversee financial and legal risk management, including ensuring adequate insurance coverage
- Provide analysis and recommendations for solving business problems, capital allocation and scaling portfolio businesses
- Oversee all legal activities, including partnering with business leaders to structure contracts for customers, partners and vendors
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all business units
Leadership and Relationship Management
- Lead, manage and mentor a high performing finance team
- Manage key external relationships and oversee the work of suppliers, vendors, auditors, tax accountants, commercial bankers and tax authorities
Experience and Qualifications
- Ability to work collaboratively with other leaders across departments
- Ability to operate broadly and to add value beyond traditional accounting
- Experience in implementing financial systems, and building a high performing accounting organization
- Strong ability to manage a wide range of priorities
- Proficiency in tax compliance (ideally in both Canada and the US), including SRED, and international operations
- Proven ability to grow, lead and inspire teams
- Proactive mindset. Loves to dig in, identify gaps, risks and opportunities and to propose solutions to senior management.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial reporting (ASPE and IFRS), including software revenue recognition
- Past experience working in a dynamic, high-growth company, ideally early-stage technology, where adaptability is imperative
- Ability to present confidently to the leadership team and the board of directors
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including proven experience as a Director of Finance, Controller, or other similar accounting leadership position
- Strategic mindset, and solid knowledge of financial planning, forecasting and analysis
- CPA or other recognized professional accounting designation
