Virtual Assistant

The Virtual Assistant is responsible for providing live-streaming support in the classroom for students who require virtualization and remote access to course content. The Virtual Assistant attends in-person classes and uses a computer, camera, microphone, and streaming platform (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) to stream course content to students who are at an off-campus location (e.g., their home). The incumbent must be proficient in streaming technology such as laptops, cameras, microphones, and streaming platforms (Zoom, MS teams, etc.). The Virtual Assistant may be required to record lectures, in addition to live streaming, where appropriate and where approval has been given.

Responsibilities

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

The Virtual Assistant

• Where required, provides a synopsis of key lecture points and key course information such as assignment details and/or due dates.
• Introduces themselves to the course professor and works with professor to determine best classroom location to provide streaming support to the student
• Sets up the appropriate streaming links in Zoom or Teams and sends to student
• Once given notification from Accessible Learning Services of the name of the student and schedule of classes, the Virtual Assistant emails the student to offer an introduction.
• Works with student to established preferred way to engage in reciprocal communication with professors and/or peers during lectures or group work
• Ensures their Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams accounts employee accounts are active
• Facilitates interaction and reciprocal communicat
• Checks in with student during lecture and after lecture to assess effectiveness of streaming feed (e.g., student’s ability to hear lecture, view content)
• Works with ALS staff to acquire a laptop, microphone, and camera
• Provides in-class live streaming support for students who have a virtual/remote learning accommodation.
• Notifies ALS staff with at least 24 hours-notice if going to be absent from an assigned class
• Attends all scheduled classes for a student with virtual/remote accommodations
