Technical Services Project Lead – Remote role

We are currently looking for a Technical Services Project Lead for one of our clients in the mining and metals industry.

Responsibilities:

The Technical Services Project Lead will be responsible for completing comprehensive investigations, studies, and planning for 6 sites in the AMR region, specifically focusing on the Lang, Nevada Copper, Sweetwater, Ridgeway, Mt Rosser, and Holden sites:

• Development response actions and plans, as required, to reduce risks.
• Evaluate the geotechnical and environmental risks for the closed tailings facilities managed in the AMR region.
• Achieve conformance with the D5 and GISTM.

The Technical Services Project Lead will manage the project to ensure:

• Evaluations and studies are conducted in conformance with the RTC standards and guidelines and the GISTM requirements.
• Engineering Service Provider(s), consultants, and contractors delivers to the approved scope, schedule, and cost.
• Project deliverables are completed to the required quality on schedule.

The Technical Services Project Lead will:

• Identify and develop subsequent scopes of work to enable evaluations and engineering to advance remedial activities, where determined necessary, to conform with GISTM and D5 standards.
• Lead the end-to-end procurement process including preparation of scopes of work, supplier selection, contractor management, and project close out.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure safe and timely delivery of the project scope. Key internal stakeholders include the Asset Managers, Closure Major Hazards team including Responsible Dam Engineers (RDE), Subject Matter Experts (SME), Engineers of Record (EoR), Community and Social Performance (CSP) team, Procurement, Knowledge, and Information Management (KIM) team, Procurement and more.
• Facilitate cross-functional reviews with independent technical reviewers and liaising with the EoR, SME, and RDE to communicate conclusions and recommendations to the Closure senior leaders.
• Lead the development of scope, schedule, and budget for the GISTM project which will include site investigations for characterization, technical evaluations, and stakeholder engagement planning for 6 sites in the Americas region.
• Identify, secure, and manage the selected Project Team(s) including external environmental, technical, and design engineering contractors, external legal advisors, community relations support consultants, and regulatory specialists on behalf of the Closure Americas team to complete investigations and perform evaluations to achieve conformance with GISTM and D5 standards.
• Prepare and maintain monthly project progress reporting and schedule management.
• Support the Asset and Major Hazards teams with reporting and communicating site classification and conformance status.
• Lead the safe and successful execution of the project scope in coordination with HSE advisors, Asset Managers, and site teams.

What you will need to succeed:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geotechnical, environmental, civil, or related discipline.
• Excellent technical writing skills
• Valid passport for travel to six different sites located in Canada, USA, and Jamaica.
• Valid driver's license
• Proven experience in capital projects execution within the mining sector, heavy industry or equivalent, environmental and closure projects preferred.
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations.
• Ability to collaborate across a networked organization and across different geographic regions.
• Bilingual in English and French (spoken and written) – an asset.
• Strong proven project management experience, Project Management Professional certification is preferred.
• Experience managing project teams of employees, consultants, and contractors.
