Integrated in the T&P Canada team, the ESS Canada Technical Director is responsible for direction and execution of technical aspects throughout the ESS division of Canada. This includes support to operations, due diligence and strategy definition, project management and support to business development throughout the ESS division of Canada. This position can be located in Quebec or Ontario. This individual must have a strong background in the technical field in the environmental business with experience in business operations, knowledge of finance principles and project management. The position will also require leadership of some special projects such as capital expenditure projects.


ESS Canada Involves


  • Hazardous waste transfer stations and solidification (Québec and Ontario)
  • Hazardous waste incinerator (running at limited capacity) (Alberta)
  • Oil regeneration plant (Québec)
  • Solvent regeneration distillation plant (Québec)
  • Hazardous water treatment (physico-chemical and 3 phase centrifuges) (Québec and Ontario)


Primary Duties


  • Ensure the project or assignment is planned and coordinated according to the required schedule, with strict adherence to health and safety, quality and budget considerations.
  • Lead technical due diligences of new business acquisition or plant upgrades.
  • Complete a post project evaluation of personnel assigned to projects.
  • Ensure technical quality and optimal health and safety in all aspects of job performance and compliance per all applicable local regulations and standards and Veolia corporate and VNA standards and best practices.
  • Provide the overall direction and management of his/her assigned projects, including the assigned personnel, equipment, and subcontractors, applying proper and effective project management procedures and skills.
  • Participate in defining the long term strategy to develop the Canadian activities by bringing technical expertise to the business development team. Participate to the development of associated business cases and memos for internal GoNoGo (WIN process)
  • Provide technical and performance support to the ESS group in Canada by supporting Operations and Asset Management teams to troubleshoot, optimize and improve the performance of current activities where identified.
  • Assist Business Development in preparation of estimates and procedures in planning of projects, financial estimates with a strong focus on operational efficiencies.
  • Actively participate in feedback and post-job evaluation of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical mentoring and training to O&M employees. Provide technical and operational expertise to operations, business development and EHS when needed.
  • Other duties as directed.


Qualifications


Qualifications:


  • Skills in leadership, planning, coordination and labor relations;
  • Personal depth, in the form of mature confidence, adaptability, self direction, and organization;
  • Language skills for business in English and French ;
  • Strong skills in analysis and problem solving;
  • Willing to pass medical and drug test.
  • Experience in hazardous/industrial waste treatment, industrial wastewater treatment;
  • BS degree in technical studies - Engineer;
  • Experience in oil or solvent recovery is a strong asset;
  • Outstanding writing, communication skills both up and down and mentoring skills;
  • Ability to foster teamwork and excellence in expertise work coordination;
  • Must be committed to the Veolia core values of integrity, openness and trust, accountability, and excellence through teamwork;
  • Thinking skills: decision making ability, seasoned judgment;
  • 15-20 years experience in transversal technical functions and/or operational functions (ex : operation manager, plant manager, technical manager…);
  • Valid Driving license;


Work Environment


  • Employee can be located in Québec or Ontario
  • Travel 25% to 30% of the time
  • Required to Travel in Canada and to the USA occasionally
  • Hybride work policy (office/remote)
