Student, Investment Operations (Fall 2023, 4 Months)

The Capital Markets Finance (CMF) team is responsible for supporting OMERS investment divisions in transacting in investment products across various global markets and jurisdictions. The CMF team operates and manages investment middle office functions critical to the life cycle events of various investment products resident in the portfolios.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating middle office workflows, performing reconciliations, and assisting with developmental initiatives. The products operated in this role include equities, fixed income, repos, cash, collateral, commercial paper, short term securities and term deposits.

• Update existing procedures documentation to areas of responsibility. Assist in developing new documentation as required.
• Maintain strong understanding of investment products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and issues that arise.
• Assist in identifying and assisting in implementing workflow improvements including automation of current processes.
• Foster effective working relationships inclusive of the other teams within CMF, OMERS investment divisions, and external counterparties, prime brokers, OTC counterparties and custodians as appropriate.
• Perform daily verifications between internal and external data for positions, transactions, income, collateral positions and cash. Analyze, explain and resolve all discrepancies on a timely basis.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of OMERS policies regarding investment authority, signing authority, and third-party agreements and apply to daily activities to ensure compliance.
• Responsible for public market securities and ensuring book of record data related to life cycle events is complete, accurate and timely.
• Prepare reports on public market security and ISDA/CSA exposure information as requested.
• Assist with special projects as requested.

You should apply if

• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines. Needs to be flexible.
• Proficient in Excel and Word. Investment accounting systems experience will be an asset (eg. Calypso, Charles River Development (CRD), TriMargin and Bloomberg).
• Detail oriented and demonstrate aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem solving.
• Pursuit or completion of relevant industry courses will be an asset.
• Current enrollment in an undergraduate Business Administration/Commerce and a demonstrated passion and capability in Investment Operations.
• Exposure to public markets, cash and collateral administration, investment accounting, and audit control practices.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
