BMW Group Financial Services Canada is offering an internship, within its Controlling team. The high priority projects for 2023 are (1) supporting new business development (2) enhancing the retailer and customer experience by leveraging data and (3) data optimization project which is designed to increase data awareness, improve data access and reduce barriers to entry for those without a traditional data background.
Specific Responsibilities include:
  • Managing internal reporting databases.
  • Development or enhancement of new reports that drive business decisions.
  • Gathering data from source tables using self or pre-developed SQL scripts.
  • Monthly update of the management reports.
  • Creating data visualizations in Tableau and Excel.
  • Engaging with other teams to support Internal Control System (ICS) process map updates, internal control point validation and testing.
  • Supporting members of the Controlling team (i.e., Senior Financial Analysts) with ongoing tasks or ad-hoc projects, as required.
  • Application of mathematical and or statistical frameworks to help drive sound business decisions with ability to conduct robust analysis, simulation and forecast, validate/back-test results and fine tune finance/risk models.
  • Driving automation of reports and ensuring data accuracy.
Qualification:
  • Open to both receiving and providing feedback.
  • Strong knowledge in MS Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Visio as a plus.
  • Willing to learn new skills, with no hesitation to dig into fine details.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience within Business Intelligence, Financial Services, Sales, Business Development or IT groups would be considered an asset.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
  • Analytical, pragmatic and skilled in visualizing data (both structure and end product).
  • Experience in a coding language; in particular working level experience in SQL scripting or using ‘drag and drop’ databasing programs (such as SQL SSMS, MS Access, SAS, Hyperion, etc).
  • Proven ability to visualize data within Tableau.
  • Experience with R or Python is an asset.
  • Current student or recent graduate with a degree in Commerce or Finance, Data Science, Data Analytics or a comparable course of studies.
