About The Role
Within the Shopify Merchant Lending organization, the Merchant Lending Credit team is responsible for the day-to-day operations, underwriting, and portfolio management of the suite of financial products provided by Shopify. Our primary responsibilities include: underwriting and approving applications, disbursement of funds, credit risk analytics and portfolio management, overseeing credit policy and procedures, and special projects to scale the platform for continued long-run growth (platform development, new products, etc).
To ensure that the Merchant Lending Credit team can thrive on change, scale, and quickly adapt their policies and procedures, we are looking to hire an in-house Business Analyst. This Business Analyst would be responsible for creating and driving data and tooling requests, analyzing data to identify trends and areas for automation/improvement, creating data dashboards to monitor team capacity and performance, and using data to find valuable improvements to the suite of financial products provided by Shopify.
The primary goal of the role will be to use data to provide analysis in order to efficiently scale our operations and ensure the strategic success of the team. You will collaborate closely with our Data Science team to dig into the data and provide insights into key business trends.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate stakeholder sessions to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness of Merchant Lending Credit everyday processes
• Writing data queries and building clear data dashboards to assist with the operations and strategic success of our Merchant Lending Credit team
• Proactively identifying downstream impacts of changes to workflows and behaviors
• Supporting cross-functional projects from inception to completion
• Maintaining strong relationships and high trust batteries with project stakeholders and data partners
• Measuring and effectively communicating results and business impact of data driven analysis to a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including leadership

Qualifications
Requirements for the role:

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, exemplified through effective data storytelling
• 3+ years of experience in a Data Analyst or Business Analytics role; leveraging large datasets to draw data insights that drive business decisions
• Excellent time management skills - you thrive when you’re working on multiple projects, and are adept at balancing priorities, stakeholders and deadlines
• Adept at creating meaningful data visualizations using tools (e.g. Mode & Tableau)
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem solving abilities
• Experience with fraud and risk management and/or legal compliance
• Proficient at writing complex and efficient SQL queries
• Bachelor's degree in a related field, and/or commensurate work experience
• Ability to dive-in to day-to-day workings of multiple teams and understand the full scope of their functions and responsibilities

Bonus experience:

• Leveraging statistical techniques to enhance data deep dives
• Experience at a top management consulting firm, bank or similar experience
• Programming experience - any scripting language (e.g. Python, Ruby, Javascript)
• Experience working with big data/ process automation
• Data warehousing and ETL experience
• Technical writing skills
