Job Summary
The role verifies and processes payrolls for all City employees and external stakeholders. Administers the OMERS pension plan, covering all life events from enrollment to termination, and retirement for all eligible employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adheres to corporate policies and processes, Union Agreements, OMERS pension policy, legislative and regulatory acts.
  • Run PIER report each pay for concurrent and non-concurrent employees for over or under deducted CPP and EI deductions. Upload Federal and provincial TD1 basic exemption to all employees after the last pay of the year
  • Provide support for project work and other duties as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides backup and support to all Payroll processes as required ( i.e. vacations, absences, etc.) Provide a timely response from inquiries from Finance, HR, managers and employees.
  • Prepare and remit Bi-weekly and Monthly Third Party Remittances. Payroll accounting.
  • Audits bi-weekly payroll output prior to pay processing. Coordinates year-end regulatory reports such as T4's, T4A’s, others.
  • Ensures collective agreement changes are processed timely and accurately. Payroll analysis and reporting.
  • Supports internal and external clients relating to payroll and pension. Calculates pay adjustments.
  • Reviews, analyzes and verifies payroll reports and documents for accuracy. Communicates relevant payroll legislative changes as required.
  • Coordinates the delivery of the bi-weekly pay processes. Analyses pension information and reporting (i.e. OMERS).
  • Responsible for processing and maintaining, ROEs and forms as required. Create and maintain accurate payroll records.
Skills And Qualifications
  • Must possess analytical/problem solving skills with a strong attention to detail and high level of organization abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must be a certified Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP).
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast pace, deadline driven environment. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) or enrolment in the program is considered an asset. Payroll experience in a large unionized environment is required.
  • Experience with pension reporting such as OMERS is an asset. Experience with Excel and Word at an advanced level is a requirement.
  • A self-starter with strong planning and organization skills. Willing to adapt quickly to quick changes in direction.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Must understand the reliance of shared data between various automated accounting/HRIS systems (HCM, FI, SAP).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and understand the level of accuracy required in a Payroll environment.
  • College or University Degree or Diploma in a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years senior level payroll experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
