Senior Manager, Software Development & QA

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

RBC Global Asset Management is looking for an experienced software engineering professional to lead an Application Development team and drive our modernization and cloud adoption program forward.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our development and QA roadmaps, standards and practices. You will guide the team to deliver effective solutions that meet budget, timeline, and quality standards.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Responsibilities

• Hire, train, and develop new talent for a high-performing software engineering and QA team.
• Scope and plan development efforts and dependencies with the product management team.
• Lead a talented team responsible for the design, development, testing, and delivery of a portfolio of internally build business applications and shared services.
• Lead and implement software development methodologies, standards, and procedures that improve team productivity and value delivery.
• Champion applied innovation by building productive relationships with product owners, business and enterprise cloud and innovation team partners.
• Oversee the timely delivery of high-quality software applications.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, effective collaboration, and innovation.
• Manage technical professionals by setting performance expectations, monitoring performance, and providing coaching.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software development with a demonstrated track record of leadership roles managing and growing software development teams.
• Advanced knowledge of software development technologies and concepts. Practical experience with systems design and architecture for large scale applications and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, and managing a high-performing development team.
• Demonstrated experience in leading complex end to end technical projects through initiation, development, and implementation.
• Must strive to create a positive work environment, provide technical and professional mentorship to team members, and actively work to create strong business and employee relations.
• A strong leader with excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to build consensus with various stakeholders.

Nice-to-have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
• Ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

Demonstrated experience working with front and back-end technologies using multiple IT platforms and languages, such as: .NET / Java, RESTful Web Services, modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue, React and Angular), Node.js, RDBMS such as MySQL and MS SQL
