Our client the Directors Guild of Canada is currently seeking a Senior Communications Specialist.
The individual in this role will assist the Director of Communications in increasing the Guild’s penetration across traditional and social media platforms, production of print and physical products including assisting in the planning and execution of regular team meetings and maintaining project management resources, distribution of action items and tracking progress toward team goals. The Senior Communications Specialist will also act as a producer and sponsorship coordinator for the Directors Guild of Canada Awards.
The Directors Guild of Canada is a national organization with multiple district councils spanning Canada. It is based in Toronto and shares its office with the Ontario district council, DGC Ontario. These linked but separate organizations collectively represent thousands of workers in the Canadian screen-based industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital and Print Media
Supervise the day-to-day creation of content and project management of DGC National social media, sponsorship placements, advertising, print materials, publications, website, and promotional material.Curate news and information items relevant to DGC Members and promote advocacy work done by the DGC.
Ensure effective communication across multiple platforms, it is critical to create timely content in both English and French languages. This involves overseeing copyediting and proofreading of all web content, to ensure accuracy and clarity of information presented.
In executing communication priorities, assistance to DGC District Councils may also be required. In promoting NDD events through the website and social media, including onsite administrative support.
DGC Awards Gala
The Senior Communications Specialist is required to act as the lead in many aspects of this executing the annual DGC Awards Gala.The elements of the project include Event Planning; Publications; Submissions; Juries and Balloting.
Medial Relations
The individual in this role will serve as primary liaison for DGC National to French media.The role also serves as backup liaison for DGC National media relations.This includes, supervision and maintenance of media lists and key contact data for industry stakeholders, drafting press releases and other internal/external communications and creating media release copy as required.
Departmental Planning
Maintain all planning and project management documents related to the department’s work and assist in assigning work tasks.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, film and production or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Five or more years experience preferably within the arts and entertainment industry, or with labour, non-profit or other member-driven organizations.A demonstrated ability to work independently, driving both initial concept and execution of internal and external communications under supervision and guidance. Preferably bilingual in French and English (both spoken and written) and impeccable writing and proofreading skills.A strong understanding of social media, with an aptitude for platform marketing and SEO and a familiarity with Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Photoshop, InDesign and Microsoft office.Experience in event planning and promotion is an asset.
Currently, the office is enjoying a hybrid work arrangement, however, there will be a future requirement for this position to be fully onsite in our Toronto office. In alignment with the organization’s Vaccine Policy, all employees must be fully vaccinated.
