Position Overview
The National Payroll Institute (“Institute”) has an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Communications Specialist in our Public Relations department. The Marketing Communications Specialist helps to implement and execute marketing and communications plans and programs, to increase brand awareness for the National Payroll Institute.
This individual provides strategic communications counsel and support to the Institute’s Public Relations team. They demonstrate leadership as the communications representative, providing communication planning; strategy; positioning; writing; editing and proofreading oversight; as well as liaising with internal and external partners to deliver on marketing elements of approved communication plans. He/she can identify emerging issues that may affect the Institute, its members, or its brand and can interpret complex information to support issues management.
This position plays a key role in driving the successful growth of the National Payroll Institute and the elevation of the payroll profession in Canada.
What you will be doing:
Member Communications
- Craft engaging email marketing strategies to help meet and exceed objectives
- Provide strategic communications and PR counsel
- Edit, proofread and provide strategic communications advice on the Institute’s education publications and compliance tools and resources
- Craft communication project plans, scripts, speeches and presentations in support of the Institute’s key networking and education events (i.e. National Conference and Trade Show, National Payroll Week Events, Certification Recognition Events, etc.)
- Copywrite and/or update, edit, proofread, and provide strategic communications advice on the Institute’s communication and marketing publications and materials as required
- Conduct direct outreach to members, acting as a spokesperson for the Institute as needed (i.e. interviews for testimonials, invitations to participate in events etc.)
External Communications
- Conduct media relations and monitoring as required
- Contribute content for the Institute’s social media platform and accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
- Respond to, validate and schedule press inquiries, identifying the appropriate internal spokesperson to represent the Institute
- Work closely with internal team and external PR partner agency to strategize, plan and execute high impact PR campaigns that enhance the perception of payroll and the National Payroll Institute to the general public
- Participate in content updates to the Institute’s website, including working with department managers to ensure communications are in line with brand standards
- Ensure the Institute’s brand and key messages are consistently reflected in all media, working closely with the Manager, Public Relations and other leadership to craft speeches, articles, press releases, and other communications
- Collaborate with the Institute’s Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations teams to support their annual business objectives through expert communications
Marketing
- Provide strategic advice on building and refining marketing campaigns.
- Work closely with team members (i.e. Graphic Designer and Marketing Specialists) to ensure project components are executed according to brand standards and perform as expected
- Work with external media buying agency to assess the success of campaigns, using analytics and KPIs
Project Management
- Report on successes and learnings, using effective KPIs
- Work closely with team members to ensure project components are executed according to brand standards
- Act as an internal agency within the National Payroll Institute to provide support to the various departments within the organization
- Lead multifaceted projects, utilizing critical paths to keep team members on track
Some of the qualifications and skills we are looking for include:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field of study (communications, journalism, English, business or marketing)
- Post graduate certificate in corporate communications, public relations or marketing communications preferred
- Strategic Thinking. Analyzes opportunities within the Institute and environment for opportunities and think strategically about how to capitalize
- 4+ years experience in corporate or marketing communications (agency experience preferred)
- Excellent communications skills. Produces clear and complete written articles, materials and reports and communicates effectively and appropriately
