The opportunity
TC Energy’s Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines unit has an opening in its Rotational Early Career Development Program, with an anticipated start date summer 2023. In this program, you’ll spend approximately 12 months in three different Business Analyst roles.
Business Analyst New Hires will rotate through various teams based on business needs and will report to the manager of their respective area. Your work plans will be monitored and modified as needed by the Canada Gas Program Coordinator. Business Analysts will participate in performance reviews on an annual cycle to ensure performance.
Through each rotation, you’ll obtain a broad understanding of TC Energy and have varying degrees of analytical and customer-focused responsibility. First and foremost, be prepared to LEARN.
First Rotation: Rates & Services Eastern Assets, Canada Gas Commercial Team
Primary Responsibilities
  • Calculating Monthly Fuel Ratios and hosting Fuel Ratio meetings
  • Conducting financial analysis to respond to requests from other groups
  • Processes improvement and streamlining
  • Opportunity for more complex/unique tasks depending on skillset, interests, and abilities.
  • Updating the Toll Calculator & External Website
  • Creating Presentations or Excel/Power BI reports
2nd and 3rd Rotation potential teams and responsibilities are as follows:
Contracts, Billing & Credit
  • Conduct analysis for enhancing and maintaining business processes and systems
  • Prepare and issue transportation invoices and produce monthly reporting
  • Provide external and internal customers with contract and/or transactional information and reporting
  • Prepare and issue transportation contracts for various pipeline systems and manage day-to-day contractual and operational relationships with customers
  • Calculate transportation exposure for customers and work with Counterparty Risk to ensure TC Energy has sufficient financial assurances for each customer
Regulatory Research & Analysis
  • Provide economic analysis of regulatory decisions
  • Respond to research requests from within TC Energy Gas Transmission
  • Provide regulatory research analysis support with respect to TC Energy filings, interventions and policy development
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory issues related to the development of TC Energy gas pipeline projects and existing assets
Gas Pipeline Operations
  • Participate in the implementation of Field Projects
  • Developing, maintaining and reporting on operations budgeting
  • Participate in the Pipeline Integrity management processes
  • Develop awareness and understanding of the Regulatory Implications and Obligations of Pipeline Operations
  • Participate in the maintenance planning and execution process of Field Operations
  • Participate in the Optimization of business processes for Gas Pipelines Operation
  • Develop awareness and understanding of the Major Equipment Management process
  • Develop awareness and understanding in Pipeline Control Room Operations
Nominations & Allocations
  • Manage transactions of shippers and interconnecting pipelines
  • Varying shifts may be required as the team maintains a Customer Call Centre which operates 15 hours seven days a week
  • Work with customers to resolve operational issues on tight deadlines
  • Develop an understanding of the operational aspects of the various Canadian pipelines owned and operated by TC Energy
Coastal GasLink Commercial
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure commercial compliance.
  • In addition to the above teams, you may also rotate through one or more of the following areas: Commercial Sales, Rates, Business Development and Strategy, Customer Collaboration, Business Planning & Performance, Environmental Strategy & Compliance
  • Advance the commercial obligations of multiple complex agreements.
  • Create and maintain commercial report tracking other teams within Natural Gas Pipelines
  • Innovate process’ and procedures to create greater effective and efficient work streams
Minimum Qualifications
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or a valid work permit
  • Exhibit a safety mindset, in a professional and personal setting
  • Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, or Business Administration
  • Up to a maximum of two years of professional discipline-related work experience, not including co-op or internship work term
  • Strong business acumen and ability to apply skills in a commercial environment

  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the oil and gas sector, and especially pipeline industry, is considered an asset
