Profile:

Our Knowledge to Action (KTA) team is responsible for ensuring March of Dimes Canada (MODC) is an organization that is focused on integrating evidence-based research in the services and programs offered to people with disabilities and their families. We are looking for a highly skilled, inquisitive, and passionate Research Coordinator.

The position is responsible for coordinating research and the sharing of knowledge within MODC. The Research Coordinator will conduct and support a multi-year research project examining digital skill development for youth living with disabilities. The aim of the research project is to create more inclusive employment opportunities as youth and young adults transition from school into the workplace.

The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate all aspects of the project, including working with the project lead to develop the research protocol, plan and execute on project activities and timelines. The candidate will also facilitate advisory committee meeting, complete ethics applications, conducting recruitment and data collection, supporting data and project management activities, completing data analysis, writing reports, and supporting the development of various knowledge translation products and activities.

The Research Coordinator will report to the Manager of Research & Knowledge Translation, while working closely with other KTA team members on the project. The Research Coordinator will also have opportunities to oversee and mentor research students’ activities. It is expected that the successful candidate be well versed in research methodologies and integrated knowledge translation approaches. Equally as important, the candidate should be comfortable engaging and building relationships with various stakeholders including people living with disability, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, administrators, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate project timelines, deliverables, and administration, including writing regular project reports.
  • Support the creation of a comprehensive integrated knowledge translation approach, including the development and execution of knowledge products and events.
  • Planning and facilitating advisory committee and project team meetings
  • Work closely with the Manager of Research & Knowledge Translation to design and execute project activities including:
  • Developing and completing research protocols and ethics applications
  • Participate in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities.
  • Conducting data collection activities
  • Developing and executing a participant recruitment plan
  • Reporting results in a variety of ways (i.e., reports, manuscripts, presentations, white papers, etc.)
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Completing data analysis
  • Conduct literature reviews and environmental scans, as necessary.
  • Mentor research assistants, students and other trainees working on research projects within the KTA team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in social sciences, disability studies, public policy, or research with 2+ years of appropriate work experience required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with youth or people living with disabilities is an asset.
  • Familiarity with disability issues is an asset.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Experience with knowledge translation activities is an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, works well in a demanding dynamic environment.
  • Must have a strong understanding of social, community and/or health services research methodologies including qualitative data collection (e.g., focus groups, key informant interviews) and quantitative data collection and analysis (e.g., surveys).
  • Project management or research administration experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience conducting social, community and/or disabilities research in a work or academic environment.
  • Experience with research specific software (NVivo, Qualtrics, Zotero) considered an asset.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
