Job Description

The successful candidate will provide leadership in delivering the highest quality volunteer based mentoring programs to the children of Clarington. In this position you will work closely with our mentoring team, volunteer base, children, families and members of our community and you will strive to assist with the agency in realizing our Vision, ensuring that every child in Clarington who needs a mentor, has a mentor.


The ideal candidate will be responsible for working with the Program Manager to ensure the participation of cross-functional stakeholders in furthering project goals. With organization and prioritization skills, this candidate will organize the necessary pieces to ensure project and program development success.

Responsibilities

  • Track project accomplishments
  • Establish partnerships cross-functionally as necessary to ensure project success
  • Manage communications and deliverables from all stakeholders for project
  • Work with Program Manager to develop, drive, and implement project goals


1.Project Development – Mentoring Plus

a)Work with stakeholders in the educational sector to develop a steering committee

b)Work with local school staff to promote the project and identify greatest needs of students with Lost Learning

c)Develop and incorporate specific Lost Learning tools for mentors to access and utilize

d)Develop and implement training modules for existing and new mentors

e)Participate in Pre and Post Project evaluation

2.Child & Family Screening

a)Receive applications for service and review for suitability

b)Interview Child and Guardian to determine suitability for service

c)Complete necessary assessment as required by National Standards

d)Complete all required correspondence regarding screening results

e)Complete required training (Strong From the Start and Developmental Relationships Training) with child and guardian as per National Standards

3.Mentor Recruitment, Screening / Rescreening, Training & Matching:

a)Work with team to assist with agency’s volunteer recruitment efforts

b)Recommend new opportunities for the agency to build community awareness.

c)Respond to program volunteer inquiries from the community and document appropriately

d)Assist with our scheduled community presentations to address mentor recruitment

e)Complete all program screening tasks such as interviews, completion of interview summaries and Fitness to Mentor tools. Complete reference checks and required National Volunteer Registry for verifications.

f)Complete required training (Strong From the Start and Developmental Relationships Training) with applicant as per National Standards

g)Accept or decline applicants and recommend potential matches. Arrange for required match introduction meetings and complete the required paperwork and documentation.

4.Case Management (Community and Site Based Program):

a)Complete all Case Management tasks and document in Microsoft Service Delivery PlatformSDP (according to our National Child Safety Standards)

b)Provide support and direction to all program volunteers, families and children as needed to ensure high quality programming and successful match relationships, while assisting families with accessing other supports or services which may be required.

c)Complete cross program referrals, to ensure that children are able to access as many opportunities as possible. This includes assisting with the completion of applications, and liaising with other agency staff to ensure the best possible outcome for our Littles.

d)Complete all final tasks and documentation upon Match closure, as per national standards.Such tasks include conducting and documenting Match Closure meetings, completing and distribution of correspondence on closure of the match and closure of the electronic file.

5.Administrative:

a)Work with Office Administrator to ensure all new contacts are current in the agency database, testimonials are attained and stored for future use andall project documents are saved in the agency electronic file system.

b)Provide support to our Casework Team (site based and community based) as needed including the evaluation of placement students’ performance and completing all required evaluation documents

6.Other:

a)Other related duties as required.


Qualifications

•Post-Secondary diploma / degree in a related field (Education, Psychology, Sociology, Child Studies, Social Service Work, Child & Youth Worker Diploma) and two years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector is required.

•Experience working in the Education System

•The ability to work independently and possess excellent communication, organization and problem solving skills.

•Software proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge and expertise in working with databases; familiarity with Microsoft Service Delivery Platform.

•Strong organizational and prioritizing skills; problem solving skills; attention to detail is imperative.

•Excellent written and oral interpersonal communications skills is imperative.

•Working with children's programs and volunteer management skills are an asset.

•Demonstrates high energy level, flexibility and must be a team player.

•Personable, discreet and able to maintain confidential information

•Reliable vehicle and a valid Class G driver’s license

  • Ability to provide a criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
