Description
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB) is a medical regulatory authority that, by authority of the Medical Act, 1981, serves and protects the public by regulating the practice of medicine in the province. With over 10 employees and over 2000 licensed physicians, the CPSNB is currently seeking a paralegal to work in an investigator role to support and further the CPSNB's mandate.
Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the incumbent will work Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Flexibility in hours may be required at specific times and may include evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
As Paralegal, you will support the operational administration of the Professional Conduct Department to best ensure success and to meet the requirements of the CPSNB.
Below Is An Outline Of Key Responsibilities

• Provide organizational support to the College as needed
• Other duties as required
• Maintain communication with relevant parties and legal counsel throughout the investigative process
• Prepare minutes of meetings
• Conduct interviews of witnesses
• Physically able to perform assigned duties
• Assist in preparing Orders and other legal documents
• Draft summaries of the evidence, including medical records

Required Education And Experience

• 5+ years' relevant work experience; or equivalent of education and experience
• Paralegal diploma, other relevant post-secondary education, or relevant work experience

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Proficient with Microsoft Office products
• Strong research skills
• Team player who can also work independently and take initiative
• Strategic approach to problem solving
• Bilingualism in French and English, both written and oral, would be an asset
• Ability to read and interpret medical records
• Interviewing skills would be an asset
• Understanding of the regulatory environment would be an asset
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to navigate emotionally-charged situations
• Understanding of the principles of administrative law would be an asset
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
