Department Summary


The Edmonton zone does approximately 17000 deliveries per year. In Edmonton, Alberta, the Faculty is internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools, and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff. The University has an annual budget in excess of $1.7 billion and attracts $536 million in sponsored research revenue.


The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology currently consists of 13 Full-Time Academic Faculty and over 100 Clinical Faculty. The Department has a fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency program and is a core part of the Medical School pre-clinical and clinical curriculum. Research groups within the department are actively involved in basic science and clinical research. The core academic department is based at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, where we also have the Dale Sheard Center for Solutions in Women’s Health. The department works very closely with many partners and stakeholders including Alberta Health Services, the Women’s and Children’s Health Research Institute, and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation


Position Summary


The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta is inviting internal applications for 2 generalist Obstetrics and Gynecology Academic positions. The successful candidate will be a physician (MD) certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and currently working in Edmonton zone. The ideal candidate will have academic interests in educational leadership with additional training, or have received advanced training in epidemiology or a related health research methods (i.e., graduate studies programs [Masters or PhD]). The successful candidate would be asked to consider a future alternative funding arrangement termed the Academic Medicine Health Services Plan (AMHSP), if created.


The successful applicant will be expected to mentor and teach residents and medical students, supervise summer and elective research students, and are encouraged to support graduate students.


Duties


The University Is Seeking a Candidate Who Will Enhance The Academic Interests Of The Department Including But Not Limited To The Following

  • Knowledge Synthesis and Knowledge Mobilization Research specific to the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Clinical Informatics;
  • Educational Leadership and Innovation;
  • Educational Scholarship;


Minimum Qualifications


  • Physician (MD) certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Academic interests in educational leadership with additional training
  • Currently working in Edmonton zone


Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced training in epidemiology or a related health research methods (i.e., graduate studies programs [Masters or PhD])
