Reporting to the Manager, People & Culture (Industrial Construction), the Generalist, People & Culture is responsible for providing professional human resource guidance and support and will facilitate people solutions to achieve business objectives.
This position is primarily based in our Edmonton, AB office but requires travel to remote construction sites.
What You Will Be Working On
People Relations
  • Work with the Manager, People & Culture (Industrial/MRO) to ensure strategic alignment across all areas within the human resources function.
  • Develop a rapport with employees to promote trust and open communication, providing ongoing coaching to leaders in support of human resources processes and programs.
  • Participate in resolving issues related to employee relations.
  • Consult with leaders regarding compensation-related matters, including salary recommendations, job evaluations, in-range salary adjustments, and/or promotions.
  • Communicate and ensure understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and organizational policies of managers and employees as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of provincial (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan) employment legislation and regulations to ensure the company remains committed to fair employment practices, in addition to determining how pending legislation can impact the human resources field and the employment landscape.
  • A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
  • Provide support to operational leadership teams to ensure they have the resources and advice necessary to make informed decisions.
  • Engage with operations leaders on a regular basis in a proactive and collaborative approach regarding People & Culture initiatives, staffing, and employee relations.
People and Culture Program & Policy
  • Support a consistent, one-team unified approach demonstrated through delivery of People & Culture principles, practices, and policies.
  • Provide guidance and support on employee matters including, but not limited to, policy interpretation, respectful workplace concerns, and conflict in the workplace.
  • Align and collaborate within the Divisional P&C operational groups regarding P&C strategy, planning, and initiatives.
  • Work with Manager, People & Culture when needed, to support the resolution of challenging complaints.
  • Understand the site level environment and ensure alignment with the business needs.
What We Are Looking For
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a relevant combination of education and experience in Human Resources
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • CPHR designation is an asset
  • Ability to react quickly to changes, while keeping alignment with long-term direction
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Ability to travel to sites as needed (25% of the time)
  • Experience dealing with sensitive, complex, and highly confidential employee situations (e.g., harassment, performance management, salary review and recommendations, etc.)
  • Integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion and tact
  • 5+ years working in a business partner capacity
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial laws and legislation (specifically Western Canada) as it applies to employee related situations.
