The Human Resources Generalist has responsibilities for coordinating and administering all Human Resources functions for assigned Business Units. The HR Generalist will provide a partnership with the operations to assist with all human resources responsibilities, including but not limited to, employee relations, new hire interactions, onboarding of new hires, HR programs and procedures and advisement to managers on employee matters.
  • Support the rollout of corporate wide initiatives within the client area.
  • Consult and assist senior managers in planning/organization design/restructuring of their functions and maintaining headcount. Under the direction of the Senior Human Resources Business Partner and/or HR Operations Manager, assist with conducting investigations on discipline matters, human rights issues and complaints and other areas as required, and provide a summary facts and recommendations to the HR Operations Manager, for review.
  • Prepare paperwork for transfers, promotions, severance, terminations, etc.
  • Partner with business clients to provide tactical guidance/direction on all employee relations issues.
  • Consult with broader HR team in areas of complexity or specialty ie. Payroll, recruiting, compensation, benefits.
  • Ensure files related to investigations, human rights issues, terminations, etc., are completed and finalized to be ready for any ensuing legal action and in a legally defensible position. Prepare responses and submit recommendations for any legal action that may occur.
  • Onboarding of new hire employees at multiple locations.
  • Conduct exit interviews.
  • Assists with the review of HR systems, policies and practices and suggest improvements for optimum achievement of intended purposes of such systems, policies and practices.
  • Support and assist in the implementation and maintenance of Mental Health initiatives and trainings.
  • Human Resources point-of-contact with the business for specific client groups for all HR related matters.
  • Coach and influence leaders by proactively partnering on organizational issues.
  • Assist business unit management with implementation of performance management within the department. Specifically, may facilitate any training required, assist with the development of SMART objectives.
  • Partner with leaders to define organizational structures and positions.
Travel
50% of the time to Garson, ON, Gogama, ON and other remote locations.
Qualifications
  • General knowledge of training and development
  • A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a field related to Human Resources, Industrial Relations or Business Administration is required.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Motivated team player with a demonstrated passion for exceptional customer service, building partnerships and sustaining cooperative working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
  • A minimum of 5 years of previous working experience in a Human Resources environment
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating accountability, integrity and transparency in actions at all times.
  • Experience dealing with Mental Health and Substance Abuse issues in the workplace would be considered an asset
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location is required.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates holding a CHRP designation or currently working towards their CHRP would be an asset.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive, confidential information and documentation with discretion and tact.
  • General knowledge of HRIS
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • General understanding of organizational design
  • Presentation and facilitation skills required to speak and deliver training programs to a crowd.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Previous experience using Human Resources Information Systems and Applicant Tracking Systems would be an asset (ex. SmartRecruiter, Oracle,).
  • General knowledge of compensation, pension and benefits and occupational health and safety
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
