Manager, Learning & Development


Expedia Cruises is looking for a dynamic and inspirational manager to lead our Learning & Development team. This leader will create and execute, through effective collaboration, the overall strategy and execution of Learning and Development for the Franchisees, Managers, and Vacation Consultants across North America.


As a leader, you will be responsible for increasing the effectiveness of the Cruise team through onboarding, product and tool updates, continuing education, and ongoing coaching. You will work closely with leaders within the organization to support business initiatives through L&D. You will drive the performance of a team of learning and development professionals and at times will roll up your sleeves and facilitate sessions or provide direct training. This role is also responsible for ensuring the administration of our learning management system.


What You’ll Do


  • Inspire your team to distil business insights through analysis and actively provide business solutions and/or a strategic path forward
  • Lead a distributed team of Learning and Development professionals
  • At times facilitate in person and virtual training
  • Own critical conversations across all levels of leadership and our franchisees ensuring a strong presence and influencing skills
  • Lead continuous improvement in ensuring training material is consumed and not just created
  • Conduct learning needs analysis to identify gaps in knowledge and recommend training solutions
  • Design, develop and implement the Learning and Development Strategy and Roadmap that includes a broad scope of training for our Franchisees, Managers and Vacation Consultants
  • Maintain and lead enhancements of the existing Learning Management System (LMS) and reporting systems (Adobe Learning Manager)
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business to understand their needs and objectives, managing resources to balance priorities and deliver impactful solutions
  • Measure to evaluate success, ensuring the effectiveness of training solutions by linking desired outcomes to business performance indicators, and tracking and evaluating results.
  • Consult and partner with leaders and subject matter experts to ensure the successful execution of our business strategy and goals by developing corresponding L&D strategies to enable Franchisee and Vacation Consultant performance
  • Develop the Franchisees, Managers and Vacation Consultants by building world class salespeople and improving effectiveness and productivity based on strategic imperatives and pillars
  • Actively identify, mitigate, resolve, or call out any risks, issues, and dependencies that could impact the delivery of L&D solutions


Who You Are


  • Shows judgment when analyzing situations and making data-driven decisions, high attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field; or equivalent professional experience
  • Significant experience leading people and/or complex projects in the L&D field
  • Ability to travel, including internationally
  • Qualified candidates for this position must be highly motivated, capable of self-direction, detail-oriented, flexible, and able to work collaboratively in a partnership capacity across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Candidates must exhibit a keen sense of responsibility and enjoy working with multiple demands, shifting priorities, and constant change
  • Excellent coordination, project management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to create momentum and foster organizational change
  • Experience working in a role within a matrixed organization
  • Ability to tackle problems independently and deliver results based on a range of requests

  • Experience in a broad range of facilitation including train-the-trainer, coaching, and virtual delivery
  • Excellent time and workload leadership skills; ability to prioritize
  • Enthusiastic role model and inspirational leader
  • Must have experience in training and facilitation and have a high level of capability
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience in education, adult learning, or a related field
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work whilst remaining calm under tight pressure
  • 5+ years’ experience in a major corporate training environment managing people in a matrixed organization across multiple teams or groups
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees
  • Dedication to uncovering opportunities for improvement and initiation of change.
  • Quality and process-driven in delivery
  • Ability to deal with a high volume of change and ambiguity within an organization
  • Attested experience to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Confident in abilities and works with humility
