Manager, IT Solutions Delivery


Mohawk College is seeking an energetic and highly motivated Manager, IT Solutions Delivery with expertise delivering complex IT initiatives/projects that encompass organizational change management. In this role, you will be a member of the Information Technology Services Management team and will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to deliver and enhance technology solutions.


You will act as a Scrum Master and Delivery Manager within an Agile environment and will ensure the successful end-to-end implementation and maintenance of releases and services. The Manager, Solutions Delivery will lead cross functional teams using Agile methodology and principles and identify, escalate and remove release and team impediments and will also manage schedules, risks, issues, reporting and governance of IT initiatives.


The Manager, IT Solutions Delivery will play a key role in ensuring objectives are met through the development and execution of organizational change and communication activities that maximize end-user adoption and usage of new technology solutions.

Responsibilities


Leadership and Demand Management


The Manager will oversee the delivery of complex IT initiatives and delivery activities to optimize Enterprise and business systems:


  • Conduct regular surveys of stakeholder satisfaction with applications, and where necessary, implement action plans to improve satisfaction.
  • Adopt and scale delivery management function.
  • Guide and assist team members to deliver optimal solutions on-time and within budget.
  • Lead varied teams of technology and business resources consisting of developers, architects, Business Systems Analysts, Specialists, and others the end-to-end delivery of complex projects, system enhancements / applications.
  • Participate in business planning discussion and definition of the technology delivery approach, including cross applications integration, and/or release co-ordination.
  • Work with other IT leaders to help develop overall IT strategy in the context of the College’s strategic plan.
  • Coach team members to facilitate continuous improvement of processes and adopt latest technologies and methodologies.
  • Lead and manage end-to-end delivery of complex technology solutions or services with a clear focus on planning, schedule management, scope, change and issues management.
  • Provide support and facilitate innovative and experimental application work to test new ideas within bounded cost and time frames.
  • Manage IT delivery personnel, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps.
  • Manage relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization.
  • Manage systems development life cycle (SDLC), status reporting, metrics and benchmarks.
  • Ensure that technology implementations are conducted, in line with corporate social responsibility, environmental and technical policies and applicable standards and legislation.
  • Report on portfolio progress, status and overall health.


Delivery, Planning and Stakeholder Engagement


The Manager’s Primary Responsibility Is To Manage Day-to-day Delivery Of Complex IT Initiatives And Services To Effectively Meet The Needs Of The College As a Whole By


  • Ensures documentation of IT solutions to required level of detail for setup and ensure alignment of clients and stakeholders.
  • Facilitating governance processes to deliver on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes.
  • Deliver initiatives using the appropriate agile methodology (Scrum, Kanban), tools, and techniques. Lead Agile activities including but not limited to execution of delivery road map, backlog refinement, estimations, daily stand-up and retrospective.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to standards, design, documentation, testing and deployment.
  • Driving technical implementation IT initiatives and services based on College objectives and business requirements.
  • Participate in defect triage and work with project teams to resolve prioritized defect fixes.
  • Leads or participates in defining the communication plan designed to positively influence or change behaviour; develops tailored messaging; and identifies appropriate distribution channels.
  • Performs post-implementation reviews and monitoring to obtain client and partner feedback in order to improve delivery effectiveness.
  • Overseeing benefits realization to ensure that business outcomes are achieved.
  • Facilitates internal/external kick-off meetings ensure timely and accurate updates to clients and stakeholders.
  • Working with stakeholders and the IT governance committee to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and application work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the IT budget.
  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of assigned IT initiatives to ensure successful and timely completion of desired outcomes, including initiation, procurement (RFI, RFQ, RFP), delivery, and implementation phases.
  • Leads change and release management activities of varying scope and type, including operational readiness assessments, planning, testing, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.


Budgeting, Finance and Administration


Other Duties Include


The Manager will be responsible and is required to hold their delivery team accountable for optimizing the cost, risk and value of applications throughout their life cycle.


  • Work with Senior IT leader(s) to prepare, establish and monitor budgets and actual IT Spend.
  • Develop, track and control budget for assigned IT initiatives.
  • Assist with Negotiations of contracts and agreements with external vendors and ensures contract compliance, problem resolution and maximum effectiveness for the College community.

  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
  • Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment, as well as external vendors and service providers.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical people to enhance understanding and drive decisions that lead to positive outcomes.
  • Proficiency in process improvement.
  • A post-secondary degree or equivalent in such disciplines as Computer Systems Design, Computer Sciences or a related field is required at the point of hire into this position.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Strong analytical, data-processing and problem-solving skills.
  • PMP, CSM and DevOps certifications are desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and management of multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
