Salary
$68,341.00 - $77,536.00 per annum, as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement, with annual increments up to a maximum salary of $99,968.00. Non-instructional faculty employees receive 210 hours of vacation annually, pro-rated and front-loaded, based on FTE, as well as time off paid between the Christmas and New Year's Day period. We offer an extremely competitive extended health and dental program after the completion of six months of employment. Enrolment is mandatory in the College Pension Plan, and the employer matches the contributions made by employee.
Description
The Learning Support Specialist (LSS) position supports students learning and wellness. This is a key position in NLC's student retention strategy and in NLC's students in distress plan. This individual will meet with students in person, or at a distance to help them identify barriers to their success. The LSS will help students develop skills to overcome these barriers as well as link them to internal and community resources.
This position will be responsible for creating and offering student success workshops to groups, in both face to face and online webinar formats. The position will look at the students' whole wellbeing and success as many factors in a student's life can contribute to their success in school. The LSS also connects with community resources to provide on campus wellness education in areas such as mental health, substance abuse, etc. As well, this individual works with students who have been placed on academic probation.
Occasional travel to other campus locations throughout the region will be required year round. Some evening and weekend work may be required on a scheduled basis in order to meet students' needs.
Qualifications
Requirements for this position include a minimum Bachelors' Degree in a related field and 3-5 years experience in the post secondary education field or a related field, or a combination of education and related experience may be considered. As well experience and training in student wellness, learning strategies and retention is essential.
The LSS must be able to demonstrate the ability to make presentations and prepare presentation material, for both in person presentations and online webinars. This person must be capable of organizing all aspects of hosting a workshop, and must have a thorough knowledge of the local, regional and provincial resources available to students with the ability to refer students to other departments within the college, going to outside agencies as required.
Proven ability to work positively within a team, with a demanding workload, changing priorities, and continuous interruptions is a must. We are looking for someone with excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills and ability to multitask. Ability to maintain confidentiality is required. Must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office, Internet research and hosting a webinar. Current drivers' license and willingness to travel to other campuses.
