This position reports to the Manager of Human Resources. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Human Resources (H.R.) team, including Recruitment, and Compensation and Benefits in a support capacity. The H.R. Assistant is an extremely organized and detail oriented member of the Human Resources team in a fast paced, high volume department at the Hospital. This role includes transactional support, including telephone follow-up, reception, filing, data input, interview scheduling, reference checking, new employee onboarding, and other clerical / support duties.


This position will be a full-time contract position.


Key Accountabilities


  • Assists with staff orientation sessions
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Provide coverage for the Recruitment and benefits functions
  • Regularly updates files, Excel databases, HR systems and affiliate sites including Meditech, iCims, HOOPP, Green Shield, and other sites as needed
  • Assist with employee transfers and new employee onboarding
  • Assist with enrolling eligible staff in the benefit programs, including pension
  • Assist with screening candidates and scheduling interviews for all CMH departments
  • Assist with preparing paperwork for Payroll and setting up Payroll/Personnel files


The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Skills and Qualifications


  • Lives the values of Caring, Collaboration, Accountability, Innovation and Respect
  • Experience in a professional administrative role required, preferably in a unionized health care setting
  • High degree of organization, self-motivation and accountability
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Office Administration and/or equivalent combination of education and recent relevant administration experience is required
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Knowledge of recruitment processes and tactics
  • Excellence in communication, customer service and interpersonal skills including presentation and development
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Meditech would be an asset
  • High level of initiative and self-direction, well-developed time management skills, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results and to find opportunities to continuously improve service
