About the Role
Reporting to the HR Manager, Specialized Functions, we are looking for a technically skilled HR professional to join our team. In this role, you will work with confidential employee data, statistics, and metrics to analyze, model, and present information to leaders. You will also be the technical HRIS (Workday) backup for HR-related needs, in partnership with our HRIS Configuration Specialist in the Business Technology team. You will be the subject matter expert in HR Data Analytics, however, are joined by a team of specialists who manage SNDL’s core HR functions, such as training and development, policy and process improvement, total rewards, recruitment, etc.
The right individual for this role identifies as a HR professional first, with some supporting technical background in HRIS use and development. The ideal candidate will possess 3-5 years of HR data analytics experience, with a clear understanding of standard HR functions, systems, standards and metrics. You are a curious, business-savvy, and analytical thinker who enjoys working in the weeds (pun intended) with both qualitative and quantitative data to equip leaders to accurately assess options and make well-informed decisions.
The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, has exposure to back-end HRIS development, and loves simplifying complex data. Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Build and present business solutions, along with the supporting analysis and risk assessment, to leaders (both in written and verbal correspondence, including presentations).
- Work with BT to support technical updates and ongoing improvements in the HRIS.
- Lead and/or support the automation and digitization of HR data collection and tracking as needed for adherence to internal standards and external audit compliance.
- Advise and set-up the HRBP’s to be able to collect, manage and analyze data, key metrics and trends.
- Support the identification and oversight of short and long-term KPI’s and measures of success for the HR function.
- Conduct SWOT and cost-benefit analyses.
- Work in partnership with HR to develop ‘how-to guides’ to support cross-training and coverage needs for your role, in the event of absences.
- Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data.
- Interpret conceptual needs and work with raw data to create and update spreadsheets, charts, models, templates and dashboards in order to consolidate, model, and showcase information.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the HRIS (Workday) to build and pull HR reports containing relevant HR metrics.
- Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of undesirable outcomes and work in partnership with HR team members, or other business leaders, to develop recommendations for improvement.
- Learn and understand the similarities and nuances within business operations to understand cyclical and ad hoc reporting and data collection needs.
- Support the HR team with data storage and records management as needed.
- Engage third party vendors and internal stakeholders to proactively explore and identify opportunities to modify our data collection, tracking, and uses to enhance awareness, accountability, strategy, automation and efficiency.
- Understand and keep current with HR program rollouts and ongoing audit requirements to identify the data collection, tracking, reporting and inferences needed to measure our progress against defined KPIs and measures of success.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge of HR by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional associations.
- Build relationships and partner with key stakeholders to align on business needs and ensure HR collaboration exists on changes to HR initiatives and the HRIS (Workday).
Experience and Qualifications
- Certificates or course completion in People Analytics, Statistics, or Excel an asset.
- Experience in retail and/or a manufacturing facility desired, particularly in the liquor and/or cannabis industry.
- Basic understanding of the various functions in HR, with a strong focus in systems, metrics, research, tools of measurement, and efficiency.
- 1-3 years of strong HRIS experience preferred.
- Understanding of relevant employment legislation.
- Experience in HR change management an asset, as SNDL is continuing to grow!
- 3-5 years in HR data analytics required.
- Strong/advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel in particular) and HRIS platforms (Workday in particular).
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in HR or Business Administration (or demonstration of equivalent experience and coursework) required.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, however the requirement for business travel in this role is minimal (less than 10% of the time).
