Job Description

Weyerhaeuser is seeking a talented Human Resources Business Partner to join our Western Lumber HR Team. This role will support a manufacturing site in Grande Prairie, AB. In this role, the successful candidate will be required to build relationships with the site leaders and understand the business operations from both the strategic and tactical perspective. The successful candidate will need to diagnose organizational issues, develop solutions, and implement HR action plans in partnership with the site Manager and be willing to take on special projects as needed. This role will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Human Resources functions for the Grande Prairie mill and is a member of the site leadership team.


This position will report to the HR Director of Western Lumber with a dotted line responsibility to the Mill Manager.


Key Functions:

  • Provide top-quality coaching, consultations, and solutions in all areas of HR, including employee relations, talent management, and leadership training.
  • Strategic business partner to the Princeton leadership team as well as the broader Western Lumber HR Team.
  • Work closely with management and the union to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.
  • Ensure site compliance with provincial laws.
  • Responsible for salaried and hourly staffing functions (including sourcing, recruiting, retention, and on-boarding process).
  • Promote and encourage innovative thoughts and ideas.
  • Minister and provide guidance on compensation review/planning and performance management processes.
  • Analyze trends and metrics to develop solutions and programs.
  • Partner with site leader to develop strategic workforce plans to meet current and future talent needs. Partner with local community high schools, colleges, and universities to create pipelines of future talent.
  • Partner with leaders to develop and implement diversity and inclusion strategies.

Qualifications

The successful candidates must possess the following:

  • Previous experience with a union, highly desired.
  • Ability to effectively navigate through ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership.
  • Strong coaching and influencing skills.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing and union environment preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in multiple HR disciplines including compensation practices, employee relations, talent management, diversity, performance management, and federal and state laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Previous manufacturing/industrial experience, highly desired.
  • Typically 5 or more years of Human Resources Business Partner or equivalent HR functional experience.
  • Experience in leading change management and driving strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, assess HR implications and manage details.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time to other locations, including some overnight travel and flow to work as needed.
  • Must have strong computer skills and proficient with HRIS systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field a plus
