Job Description
CARE AND BE CARED FOR – THIS IS YOUR HOME

Are you an experienced Respiratory Therapist, seeking a rewarding career that cares for others, in a professional practice that cares for you? You’re looking in the right place

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing leadership and clinical care to frail adults and children with complex respiratory needs and/or high risk characteristics. The RT will liaise with primary and secondary care providers to facilitate hospital discharge and prevent ED visits when possible. The RT in his/her leadership role, and as a member of the team, will function at full scope of practice to plan and implement a clinical service program to assist in meeting a patient’s clinical care needs and identified goals.

Whether you work in our office, in the community, or a health care facility – you will play a lead role in providing connected, accessible, patient-centered care – and be supported by our collaborative team that includes over 8,000 regulated health care and other professionals.

As a valued team member, your mission will be to help our patients be healthier at home, while you benefit from our supports for professional growth, personal wellness and work-life balance.

What will you do?

  • In-home teaching related to respiratory equipment
  • Identifying when to terminate service once a patient's goals are achieved and/or when the patient no longer requires the service
  • Management and care of patients with tracheostomies or laryngectomies
  • Conduct assessments of patients with respiratory conditions transitioning home from hospital
  • Documents all patient-related interventions and maintains the patient record by adhering to The College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario standards of practice and HCCSS HNHB policies and procedures
  • Attending patient related meetings to report on assessment findings and discuss plans for interventions, progress reports and discharge as required
  • Care and management of mechanically ventilated patients in community
  • Assessment and intervention for patients deemed high risk for respiratory failure

What you must have?

  • Must be currently licensed by, and in good standing with, the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CTRO) practice in all applicable for clinical areas.
  • Current BCLS certification required; ACLS and PALS certification an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and involvement in professional associations/activities preferred
  • We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date
  • Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Therapy
  • Certification as a Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) or Certified COPD Educator (CCE) an asset
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in an acute care setting; additional experience in community an asset

What would give you the edge?

  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and complex environment (independently/within a team)
  • Ability to apply knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting professional practice standards as outlined by the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario and related professional associations
  • Comfortable working in a community setting without direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team, and with patients and families
  • Computer experience and keyboarding skills on a lap top computer

What do we offer?

We know wellness is supported with work-life balance. In an inclusive culture committed to support your passion for continuous learning, growth and innovation, we offer

  • Membership in a world class defined benefit pension plan
  • Valuable development opportunities
