Our team is growing and we are actively looking to hire Expense Analyst to join our team! Expense Analyst as part of the Finance department’s Expense Planning and Spend Analysis team will support the achievement of Allstate Canada Group’s short and long term Mission, Vision and Strategic objectives through management of the corporate expense budget by providing detailed reporting of expenses, actual variance to plan analysis, monthly reforecasts, and annual plan process.
Accountabilities:
- Expense Reporting and Variance Analysis: responsible for the timeliness, integrity and accuracy of the month-end close process, which involves recording journal entries, account reconciliation, statutory/management reporting
- Provide training and ongoing support to Expense Coordinators on overall planning process and systems as needed
- Provides direction, training and coordination to Expense Coordinators as required
- Develop year end expense reforecast for assigned functional area by consolidating quantified year end variance due to timing, savings, and risks (unexpected costs) by functional area Expense Coordinator to determine net savings
- Participate in system upgrades/migrations for expense reporting, tracking and planning tools
- Review net savings to ensure reasonability and follow up/challenge assumptions with Expense Coordinator as required before submitting estimates to Manager, Expense Planning and Spend Analysis for consolidation to ACG for further analysis by Leadership team to determine spend management
- Identifies and highlights variance in question to functional area Expense Coordinator ensuring effective teamwork and communication to establish findings and drivers
- Develop and deliver user documentation and training internal expense processes within the team and for functional areas
- Prepare reforecast of expense submission to parent company for short and long range forecasts
- Retrieval of data for reports and processes which support and enable the effective and efficient preparation of internal and external reporting
- Identify new ideas, techniques and opportunities for improving effectiveness, performance and productivity
- Monitors assigned department/functional areas’ actual variance to plan expenses and conducts analysis to determine and question reasons for variance
- Review functional area expense plan for reasonability and address any concerns with Expense Coordinator for resolution; ensure adherence to guidelines/bulletins working to achieve corporate objectives
- Coordinate and follow up with Expense Coordinator appropriately for revision to plan as required
- Coordinate the annual budgeting process for assigned functional areas by delivering planning process timelines, guidelines, bulletins and templates
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in financial analysis and forecasting, budget formulation, financial planning, financial controls, as well as preparing a variety of financial performance reports
- Sound judgement and the ability to handle matters of a confidential or sensitive nature.
- University degree in business, accounting or equivalent is essential
- Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with team and cross functionality with other departments
- Ability to communicate effectively, including strong developed writing and verbal communication skills
- Possession of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset
- Ability to work in a team environment managing multiple tasks under pressure, and to and to produce results within tight timeframes
- Ability to interpret, understand and analyze quantitative and qualitative information
- Strong working experience with computer applications (e.g. SAP, MS Office Suite) that pertain to financial and accounting systems, processes, analysis and system controls
