Position: Research Data Analyst

Location: Ottawa, ON

Job Type: 18 to 24-month term, full-time (possibility for permanent afterwards)

We are seeking a Research Data Analyst for one of our Ottawa-based clients. This is a hybrid work opportunity that would the successful candidate to live in Ottawa and work in the office at least twice per week. In this role, you would be reporting to the Research Program Manager, and would be responsible for collecting, cleaning and managing all data for the company's core research activities.

- Salary of $75,000K to $80,000 + 10% pay in lieu of pension benefits

Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain specified software tools and systems required to collect, clean, and control access to data contributed by insurance companies, pension plans, and other stakeholders for core research

- Develop and maintain a warehouse of the data used in core research to facilitate cross-year consistency checks and future longitudinal studies

- Liaise with the IT team to ensure that existing IT standards are followed

- Coordinate and manage all submissions of data to the company for core research, analyze the submitted data for errors and inconsistencies, and work with data contributors to address identified issues

- Prepare contributed data in the form required for specific research studies, and coordinate and manage access to the data by external researchers retained to perform these studies

- Work with the Project Manager, Research and Professional Practice to understand the data requirements for approved core research projects and ensure that this data is available to retained researchers when needed

- Make recommendations with respect to the data collected for core research studies and the processes for collecting, cleaning, handling, and using this data

- Convert legacy software tools used to clean and analyze contributed data to more widely used languages, as appropriate, to mitigate key person risk

- Act as a gatekeeper for all resources posted to the website, ensuring that all resources are appropriately tagged that metadata is consistent, and that policies regarding these resources are in place and adhered to

- Ensure strict adherence to company policies for data and record retention, deletion, and destruction

- Act as the company's point person on all issues related to data and software for managing data

Required Qualifications:

- Expert knowledge of SQL or similar database software

- Knowledge of R, Python, or equivalent statistical or machine learning software that is sufficient to perform data cleaning, visualization, and analytics tasks

- University degree in a relevant field, e.g., information science, computer science, engineering, etc., or equivalent qualifications and experience

- At least three years of experience in data warehousing, database management, and related software development and analytics

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience writing reports; must be able to summarize, interpret, and synthesize complex information
