Job Description

The NSCC Foundation and Alumni Relations department fosters connections among the College, alumni, donors, employees, students and community partners to strengthen NSCC’s reputation, relationships and resources. We work closely with NSCC leadership, campuses, industries, NSCC alumni and communities to advance our collective goals and maximize our impact. We are a strategic entity of the College focused on empowering transformation and communities to thrive. The NSCC Foundation is also a registered charity and our approach to fundraising is unique and grounded in equitable and inclusive principles. We work collaboratively internally; and with donors, partners, and community to co-create innovative, impactful and responsive supports for students and alumni. We, along with our Board of Directors, have mapped out a new strategic direction. This plan will serve as our compass, allowing us to confidently move in a direction centred around lasting impact, trust, inclusion, and belonging.

We are looking for an Executive Director, NSCC Foundation & Alumni Relations. The Executive Director is accountable for the overall strategic leadership, direction and ultimate success of the NSCC Foundation and Alumni Relations and the implementation of its Vision and Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment with college priorities, identifying and enabling key relationships and partnerships across NSCC and throughout the unique communities in which we operate and aim to serve.

You have the passion to continually advance the NSCC Foundation and Alumni Relations, engaging those in the College and communities in the development of new directions. You also possess a natural ability to dream of what might be yet execute on what will be; strong and obvious values are the ultimate driving force of this position.

With NSCC’s bold commitment to increasing diversity and advancing systemic change, we highly encourage applications from members of groups experiencing barriers to equity. This includes Mi’kmaq and Indigenous people, members of racially visible groups, including African and Black Nova Scotians, persons with disabilities and persons of a minority sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression.

We are Nova Scotia Community College. Our mission is to help “Build Nova Scotia’s economy and quality of life through education and innovation.” We offer 130 advanced skill programs in five academic schools, serving the whole province through a network of 13 campuses and a vibrant eCampus. Eighty-seven percent of our graduates are employed, most in their field of study; 94% have chosen to live and work in Nova Scotia.

Our new Executive Director has a graduate degree or a relevant combination of education, professional development, and extensive occupational experience. You have ten years of recent, demonstrated successful corporate and/or fundraising experience that includes successful leadership and governance of a large Board of Directors and Board subcommittees. You have demonstrated experience leading a large, high-functioning team and the ability to work effectively and build strong relationships within a complex, matrix-based organization, demonstrating comfort with ambiguity. Ideally your experience includes designing, developing, and implementing policies, procedures, programs and initiatives to promote the culture of philanthropy, external relations and community engagement internally and externally. You possess demonstrated experience in analysis and preparation of complex data, financial metrics and reporting to various levels of stakeholders and rightsholders including the Board of Directors, Executive, Senior Leadership, and donors. You also have demonstrated ability to engage key relationships in development of a vision and plan that incorporates a comprehensive and diverse range of programs and stakeholders as evidenced by a track record of inspiring and engaging diverse constituents in pursuit of a common mission and goals. You have demonstrated experience in cultivating relationships and developing solicitation and stewardship strategies and techniques. You have a demonstrated passion for helping people achieve their dreams through education and lifelong learning.

NSCC makes things happen. We're growing the economy of Nova Scotia, we're producing a highly skilled workforce, and we're building communities. How are we doing it? By providing the most career-oriented education available in Nova Scotia today, by maintaining close links to industry, and by inviting exceptionally talented people to join NSCC's team of 2,000. Consider being a part of excellence in learning and having the chance to help build Nova Scotia's future while building your own.
