Executive Director - Your Opportunity to Make a Difference.
Cyr & Associates, on behalf of our client - Community Advocacy & Legal Centre is seeking a talented leader for the position of Executive Director.
Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC) is a progressive and dynamic non-profit community legal clinic located in Belleville, Ontario, very close to Prince Edward County. CALC provides legal services and advocacy for people living on a low income in the counties of Hastings, Prince Edward and Lennox & Addington and Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. CALC’s vision is to achieve social justice with dignity and by influencing change in the community, our institutions, and the law.
As Executive Director, you will lead a team of legal professionals and staff to deliver on our mission and strategic plan with support from CALC’s Board of Directors.
Your accountabilities will include:
- Overseeing effective operations, and administration of CALC including financial management, human resources, and budget planning.
- Fostering positive working relationships with Legal Aid Ontario, other funders, all levels of government, allied organizations, and other legal clinics.
- Building community capacity, advocating for justice, and speaking out against injustice.
- Providing leadership, coaching, legal expertise, and guidance for staff.
- Ensuring that CALC programs and services meet the goals and objectives of our strategic plan and mission.
As the ideal candidate, your background will include:
Leadership: Progressively responsible senior management experience with a collaborative leadership style. A demonstrated commitment to social justice and improving access to justice. Familiarity with rural service provision and the unique challenges faced in rural communities. Knowledge of governance and ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors and committees with diverse views.
Strategic Thinker: Experience as a strategic and evaluative thinker in a community and service-oriented environment. Ability to communicate future vision and translate strategic objectives into successful outcomes in a fiscally accountable fashion.
Community Relations: Ability to build productive and collaborative relationships, manage sensitive situations and to deliver joint solutions, forming community partnerships and outreach with marginalized communities.
HR Leadership: Experience providing coaching, supervision, and mentorship to staff to build enthusiastic, high-performing staff teams.
Resource Management: Demonstrated project management experience. Experience developing and administering financial plans, grants, and budgets, including the ability to analyze and interpret financial data. Familiar with completing funding applications and reports.
Service Excellence and Business Transformation: Providing client service excellence through the effective delivery of innovative programs and services in time-sensitive and changing environments.
Legal Background: Experience in poverty law, and family and criminal law is preferred. An understanding of legal aid and community legal clinics, coupled with an ability to implement associated policy and programs. Demonstrated experience with legal supervision and case management is an asset.
Education: A lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario is preferred and/or related senior level legal experience and education.
