Director, P&CB Financial Control

What is the Opportunity?

You will be an integral member of the Financial Control integration team within CFO Group, while also contributing to the Canadian Banking Financial Control workstream. You will report to the Senior Director, Personal & Commercial Banking and you are expected to navigate multiple finance and non-finance teams within the organization. The end goal is to ensure a successful migration and integration of a potential acquisition, ensuring a strong control environment exists on day 1 and building a strong foundation for long term success. You need to have a proven track record of accounting & advisory, working on complex projects together with strong organizational skills. Due to the cross-functional nature of the role and teams this impacts, your excellent communication skills will be needed to impact, influence and support business partners during the transition.

What will you do?

• Ensure controls and sustainable processes are at the heart of the integration, ensuring that we can have an accurate, secure and complete migration and integration. This will require working with domain experts and other control functions across the group.
• Lead and/or participate in other ad-hoc migration and integration activities as directed by Senior Director, P&CB.
• Engage and manage internal and external subject matter experts in relation to purchase accounting activities.
• Support the Senior Director, and VP & Controller in setting the strategic direction of migration and integration activities for the CFO Group Financial Control workstream. In addition to this, assist with Canadian Banking Financial Control integration activities as required.
• Develop Purchase Price Accounting playbook including test plans and timelines and execute against it. Ensure appropriate documentation of all key assumptions, decisions, and conclusions, and operationalize complex accounting and valuation processes.
• Identify issues and help to resolve, coming up with recommendations and innovative solutions.
• Relationships are key to success in this role. You will be working across multiple finance, business and functional teams and need to develop relationships with each group. Key relationships include Strategic Initiatives and Change Management, Accounting Policy Group, Enterprise Finance, Capital Markets Finance, Wealth Management Finance, Corporate Support Finance, Corporate Treasury, Performance Management, Finance Shared Services, Canadian Banking product groups, Finance IT, Product IT, GRM, FRIDA, Operations.
• Work across each individual group to understand and develop the overall project timeline, understand all accounting and implementation issues, while ensuring that the overall plans are complete at the enterprise level.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

• Deep understanding of IFRS accounting policy. Prior knowledge and experience with IFRS 3 Business Combinations and IFRS 13 Fair Value Measurement would be an asset
• 10+ years accounting and finance related experience with accounting designation
• Experience in managing complex projects with numerous interdependencies, including the ability to impact and influence other groups
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to synthesize complex issues and recommend solutions

Nice-to-have:

• Experience managing change and projects
• Excellent conflict and issue resolution ability
• Excellent knowledge of RBC’s Financial Systems
• Experience with purchase accounting
