The Director will work collaboratively to improve College systems, services, and engagement for all learners. In addition, the incumbent will supervise staff within the Indigenous Education Department.
The Director serves as the first point of contact with the provincial and federal governments on behalf of the College, and on matters pertaining to College-wide Indigenous initiatives, and as a primary point of contact and coordination with First Nation Bands and School Districts within the College region. They work with College administrators, instructors, and staff, advising on program planning and priorities, services, policy, and procedures to facilitate access and success of Indigenous students, while regularly assessing and reporting the outcomes to the College.
The Director will provide leadership in collaboratively and proactively formulating the philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies of Indigenous education at Northern Lights College that are consistent with the overall mission and goals of the College, and in tracking and communicating the progress, outcomes, and next steps towards achieving the missions and goals.
NLC is working collaboratively on shared objectives to the spirit and intent of a joint vision through the establishment of a Centre of Innovation in Indigenous Education (CIIE). The CIIE seeks to advance Indigenous peoples' right to self-determination. It responds to calls to action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Centre will infuse traditional ways of knowing and cultural norms of the Indigenous communities in our region into the College's curriculum and student life.
