Job Description

WSP is currently seeking a Commercial Coordinator for our Transportation & Infrastructure business line. Working within our Major Projects Delivery team and reporting to our Commercial Manager, this position will provide direct support and assistance to our external commercial team. The Commercial Coordinator supports the strategic planning and execution of construction contracts on behalf of the Owner, including contract administration, financial management, claims management, dispute resolution, relationship management etc.
As a member of the Transportation & Infrastructure business line, you will be given opportunities to apply your skills and experience on some of WSP’s largest and most complex projects across a wide variety of sectors (including bridges, highway & roads, rail & transit, water & wastewater, and ports & marine). You will be challenged to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and provide high quality support. You will gain knowledge through mentorship and direct project experience and fast-track your development to become a Commercial Manager with the potential for a CAPM or PMP designation.
Responsibilities
  • Support providing project teams and stakeholders with interpretation and clarification of construction contract and scope requirements and interfacing with legal counsel where required
  • Support change management processes during project execution, including proactively identifying deviations from agreed-to scope, developing change narratives and justification, assessing and quantifying schedule and cost impacts, compiling final change packages, and maintenance of project change logs
  • Maintain organized and up to date records of commercial project information
  • Support the strategizing of key commercial areas of interest
  • Coordinate continual lessons learned documentation
  • Review proposed project agreements and support the identification of scope and required deliverables for WSP and partnering subconsultants
  • Support the resolution of project disputes and/or claims, including gathering and interpretating project records, coordinating cost rand entitlement reviews, quantifying damages, and preparing briefing notes
  • Support the Development and execution of commercial management plans
  • Support the development and approval process for as-sold budgets and work breakdown structures used to manage and track internal performance during project execution
  • Work directly with multidisciplinary teams of Project Managers, Engineers, Field Resources, Planners, Designers, Project Controls Analysts, Sub-consultants, and other staff as required
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Support the development and execution of contracts with WSP’s major project clients and partnering subconsultants, including back-end exhibits for scoping exclusions, contract milestones, progress payment and change mechanisms, and insurance requirements
  • Support the management of beneficial relationships with key stakeholder
  • Coordinate regular progress reporting to external clients and to internal WSP management
  • Develop, maintain and report on analytical tables
  • Conduct sporadic site visits to oversee construction on behalf of the Owner or Engineer
  • In conjunction with the Project Controls team, manage the financial health of the project, including accurate reporting of both schedule and cost performance and proactively identifying and controlling unplanned variances
Qualifications
  • Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage project deadline pressure, ambiguity, and set personal priorities
  • Knowledge of ProjectWise and/or SharePoint document management is an asset
  • Post-secondary diploma or undergraduate degree (project management, construction management, engineering or science, finance, or business) is an asset
  • Previous experience working as a field resource on a construction project is an asset
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, including report and contract writing, editing, and proofreading abilities
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as the role requires continuous interaction with team members, project leadership, and external clients/stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and Canadian construction law is an asset
  • Previous relevant experience in engineering consulting or construction is an asset
  • 1-5 years of project coordination experience, or similar
