Job Description

Position: Business Controller
Primary Location: Toronto, ON or Parsipanny, NJ
Schedule: Hybrid, salaried
Reports To: Divisional Business Controller
Compensation: $125,000 - $133,000 CAD + bonus + benefits.
Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary range for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives. Please inquire regarding the US salary range.

About This Role And About You
The Business Controller (BC) is a key financial resource and advisor supporting the Ultrapure Acid business. As a member of the Ultrapure Acid Business Team, the BC will provide financial support to all areas of the business/operations and be responsible for leading and supporting financial initiatives and providing business guidance. The BC is involved with the month end close and preparing business reports summarizing results and analyses of the Ultrapure Acid business. Further, the BC will be responsible for leading, preparing, and analyzing the annual plan and quarterly outlooks by reviewing key business drivers, while working with the various stakeholders in the Company. Finally, he/she will take the lead in special projects to analyze the profitability of various initiatives/scenarios being considered by the Business Team.
Qualifications
  • Travel approx. 5%
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, initiative and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to lead and coordinate across multiple functions
  • Accounting Designation Preferred, MBA an asset
  • Extensive experience with SAP (or other ERP system) and strong MS Office skills
  • Strong Interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • 5 + years of financial experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment
  • University Degree
  • Good time management skills, enabling completion of responsibilities within deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Provide financial and business analysis support and advice to the business
  • Work collaboratively with Plant Operations and Sales & Marketing across the business to identify and understand strategic business requirements and priorities
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for SAP and BW reporting for the Ultrapure business
  • Working with the Divisional Business Controller and Business Vice President, act as the key financial resource for all aspects of the assigned businesses
  • Coordinate financial planning, including development of quarterly forecasts, annual business plan, and long term financial profitability of the business
  • Recognize implications and relationships among problems or issues, understand how seemingly unrelated elements fit together
  • Be the financial lead for SIOP (Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning) activities
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against plan
MONTH END CLOSE, ANALYSIS & REPORTING, and CONTROLS
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports which highlight and explain significant variances between actual results and Plan for the businesses.
  • Prepare specific analyses and explanations for the business including:
  • Sourcing mix cost
  • Plant fixed costs
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly presentation for the Business Team summarizing results and key variances.
  • Customer sales volume and price
  • Identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Assist the Corporate Finance team with quarterly audit requirements related to the Ultrapure business.
  • Responsible for assisting with the timely and accurate month-end close for the Ultrapure business.
  • Ensure that the Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheet accounts are accurate and conform to IFRS.
  • Logistics (freight and distribution costs) and other analyses as required
  • Supply and production volume
  • Ensure that controls for reporting are sufficient for the Ultrapure plants.
ANNUAL PLAN & QUARTERLY OUTLOOKS
  • Develop inventory standard costs from plan assumptions.
  • Prepare analysis of key business drivers and initiatives contained in the Annual Plan and Quarterly Outlooks against benchmarks.
  • Lead and prepare the Annual Plan and Quarterly Outlooks processes for the Ultrapure business.
  • Summarize outlook and plan in quarterly and annual presentation files for the Leadership Team.
  • Present aspects of the Outlooks and Plan to the Business Team and Senior Management
  • Upload detailed Annual Plan into SAP for use by Business and other teams
  • Assess Annual Plan and Quarterly Outlook preparation and analysis processes and make recommendations for improvement.
Special Projects and Ad hoc Analysis
  • Assess the profitability and return of new business opportunities and capital investment decisions. Prepare long term profitability models.
  • Assist in evaluating and making changes required to SAP.
  • Assist in special projects and conduct ad hoc analyses of various initiatives related to the Ultrapure businesses.
  • Identify areas for process improvements and streamlining of activities.
