Job Description
The Role


Are you looking for a new challenge in 2023 and beyond? The pharmacy team at University Hospital Monklands are looking for Assistant Technical Officers (ATO) in a variety of permanent and fixed term posts to join us.


This rotational position will work within the different areas of the pharmacy department including aseptic services, dispensary and distribution as well as the ward environment of the hospital. Your main duties will involve the safe and efficient receipt, storage and supply of medicines. Ideally, you will have experience working within community or hospital pharmacy; however, we are happy to receive applications from candidates who are keen to start their pharmacy career and have relevant transferrable skills and abilities (refer to person specification in job pack for further details)


Candidates should be capable of understanding and working within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and show a commitment to CPD, self-motivation and an ability to work unsupervised.


An ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload and to work under pressure is essential along with an ability to take direction and work under your own initiative and as part of a team.


Candidates should show good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate customer awareness/focus. Finally, an ability to adapt to changing circumstances and a willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department is required within this role.

What we'll need you to bring


To assist with the provision of the pharmacy service by participating in:


  • The accurate and safe receipt , storage , distribution and delivery of medicines
  • The accurate and safe assembly of medicines to be dispensed
  • A ward stock management service
  • The production, monitoring and filing of documentation
  • To undertake Scottish Vocational Qualification level II Training


It would be great if you also have


  • Demonstrate customer awareness/focus
  • Experience dealing with members of the public
  • Experience of working in a hospital or community pharmacy

37.5 hours


Please note there are fixed term posts available with a duration of 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.


Location and Working Pattern


This role will be based in the Pharmacy within University Hospital Monklands


The working pattern for this role Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm
