Job Description
In this full-time, 8-week contract role, you will join Park People’s Programming team by supporting the delivery and administration of impactful park programs in Vancouver and surrounding areas. You will help organize and animate activities in local parks such as network socials, walks, and trainings. Along with on-the-ground program support, this role will support the delivery of workshops, webinars, and communications.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about building community and eager to learn about and connect with the organizations that support Metro Vancouver’s diverse communities.

Park People supports and mobilizes community park groups, community organizers, non-profits, park professionals and funders to activate the power of parks to build strong communities, healthy environments, and resilient cities.

We are actively working to hire, meaningfully engage with, and include guidance and input from, Black, Indigenous and people of colour in ways that centre intersectionality, Indigenous resilience, and anti-racist principles. We are committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in our workspaces and programs, and encourage applications from BIPOC candidates.

As Community Worker/Project Assistant Your Role Will Include

  • Supporting nature-based programming for newcomers, seniors and underserved youth
  • Working some evenings and weekends with notice
  • Assisting in the coordination and delivery of Park People’s programs and events in Vancouver such as workshops, outdoor gatherings, and other community events, both in-person and possibly virtually
  • Attending community partner events and documenting through photos/blog content
  • Assisting with tabling at festivals and community events to increase Park People’s profile in Vancouver
  • Providing administrative support and ensuring proper tracking and evaluation of summer park programs
  • Supporting the larger Park People team as needed
  • Assisting with outreach for the Vancouver Park People Network

The skills and experience you bring to the role include:

  • Experience working with seniors is an asset
  • Personal or professional experience working with diverse communities
  • Fluency in other language(s) is an asset
  • Excellent verbal/written communications skills
  • Experience in a community setting and/or doing community development work
  • Knowledge of Vancouver’s underserved communities and parks is an asset
  • Understanding of anti-oppression and equity principles and practices
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment is an asset
  • Ability and willingness to build and maintain relationships with community members across Vancouver

Location: We will consider candidates based in the Lower Mainland, and we are open to a blend of remote and in-person days in a typical work week. Some travel may be involved; occasional evening work may be required.

Wage: $22.00/hr

Contract Dates: June 26th-Aug 18th 2023

  • We work remotely with colleagues across the country and have a strong culture of collaboration that supports a hybrid in-person and remote workplace.
  • We provide you the chance to lead change and have an impact in communities across Canada.
  • We have an amazing work culture with smart, engaged colleagues who want to learn and improve while having fun.
