Senior Financial Specialist Jobs

Reporting to the Business Operations Supervisor, the Senior Financial Specialist position partners with Planning and Development Services to update and maintain the Off-site Development Levy Rate Models, bylaws and annual report. This position also coordinates the review and update of corporate financial policies, directives and procedures to ensure these are aligned with legislation and business operations. Acting as a subject matter expertise, this position will provide coordination, analysis and advice to support the department as well as operational partners across the organizations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct financial analysis for corporate projects and initiatives, and manage all insurance accounting for the organization
• Develop, improve and manage complex corporate financial models
• Prepare and manage the update of annual levy report for Council and the public
• Support the department management team with the review, update and enhancement of corporate financial policies, directives and procedures within established corporate guidelines and timelines
• Provide financial advice for the development of new levy principles, philosophies, and strategies
• Provide ad hoc accounting support, analysis, research, and advice to various stakeholders as directed
• Manage and complete the tracking, reporting and accounting of over-expenditures
• Coordinate key stakeholders across different departments to complete the annual update of the Off-site Development Levy Rate Models and bylaws

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, public sector accounting standards, municipal policies and procedures
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate to advance level of Excel
• Excellent communication skills and ability to prepare accurate, clear and concise advice and supporting analysis in written and oral presentations
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, including ability to interact effectively with various teams and cross-department work groups
• Effective organizational and time management skills to prioritize and complete work within timelines while ensuring strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong understanding of software and financial information/integrated ERP systems

Qualifications

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation completed or in progress is an asset
• Completion of a related degree and a minimum of three years of related experience OR a related diploma with a minimum of five years of related experience, preferably in a municipal environment
